Why longevity science matters in Malaysia #aging #longevity #money #science #agingpopulation

Earlier this year, I flew to Malaysia to talk to policymakers about longevity science. And, while I was in KL, I made a short video to explain why…

Another surprising statistic that didn’t make it into the 60-second cut of this video: 78% of deaths in Malaysia are caused by ageing, which is close to the upper middle income country average of 80%. In fact, about 70% of deaths globally are caused by ageing—the cancer, dementia, increased risk of death from infection and so on caused by biological ageing is by far our leading cause of death. Ageing isn’t just an issue for people living in the rich world!

I'd love to have a job that promotes longevity science, it's such an exciting field

I'm half Malaysian and I had no idea middle income countries like Malaysia mattered

it's unfortunate that stakeholders in the longevity field appear to be siloed into different areas (e.g., compression of morbidity, radical lifespan extension, bio-hacking, transhumanists, etc.). Someone needs to place each group into a Venn diagram, see where their interests overlap, and post that on social media. That might help to unite the various factions (or at least help them to see where their common interests are).

You tell me. I’m Malaysian and I want to operate an anti aging business with my family and friends. I want to operate one in here and it’s for my friends and relatives like my aunts.

we like our healthcare system based on UK's NHS. A private healthcare system only enrich Big Pharma and Big Healthcare. With an affordable health care system, more disposable income, more are seeking a healthier lifestyle much earlier in life.
