If I were in a wheelchair, I'd like to be known a Gov Hotwheels.

Ordinary Texans have been calling governor Abbott “Hot Wheels” for years. It was never taken as an insult until a Democratic politician used the term.

From what I heard, Governor Hot Wheels had a tree fall on him when he was young, leaving him paralyzed. He sued and won millions of dollars. Then, as governor, he passed several laws that made it so anybody that had an accident like he did could not sue.

I totally disagree PBS&NPR are sometimes the ONLY station you can receive in Rural America and they provide Emergency Weather Alerts like Tornados coming!

I was a school principal after teaching for years. The teachers I saw on a daily basis (I spent 30% of my time in the classroom) were amazing, motivating kids to write and read and had much better methodology than what I saw in classrooms in the 1950's and 1960's. They also teach debating and critical thinking skills.

I respect the hell out of McWhorter, he is anti-Trump but such an open minded straight shooter.

Because going high has worked so well in the past when the Republican party has gone low.

Teacher here... AI is definitely a useful tool that can help us educators come up with scaffolding strategies and create content. But it's just that: a tool. Human interaction, building rapport is also essential to teaching. No smartphone/ AI tool can ever truly do that. I'm surprised the people in the panel, who in the first minutes were praising how they grew up in a better generarion because technology wasn't as ubiquitous, are even considering letting AI have a bigger role in education

As a retired 5th grade reading teacher, I feel it's easy to understand our embarrassing reading scores' Teachers realize the need for partnership with parents and the majority of parents don't except their responsibility. they are ok with their child not reaching their ability level and the consequences of their choice. Example Every k-5 parent is asked to spend time 5-10 minutes daily with their 1st and 2nd grader working on becoming fluent with the 100 Sight Word list and every parent of 3-6 are asked to have students read 20 minutes at home during the week. i will bet you every penny of my huge teachers' retirement that nearly all of failing students' parents choose not to be responsible.

Teaching is not imparting information. Is a process towards thinking critically and creatively

I'll side with Crockett on this one. Abbott has made life more difficult for disabled people despite his own disability; effectively pulling up the wheelchair ramp behind him.
And John McWhorter is 30 years overdue for an enema

My understanding is that Texans call Abbott :Governor Hot Wheels: So what, s the difference? And what about Trump making fun of people with disabilities, not much said about that!

I live in Texas and that’s what we call him here.
Hot wheels.

I'm a Republican and I could listen to McWhorter every day. He's intelligent, concise and rational. I don't agree with all his positions, but I appreciate his approach.

The comment on teaching was clueless. Having taught public high school for 32 years, my job also included being a cop, a therapist, a counselor, and a surrogate parent. This was six hours a day, not one hour a week in front of people paid to applaud and cheer my every utterance.

What a lot of people don't know is here in Texas he's been referred to as "Governor Hot Wheels" almost as long as he's been in office.

I was VP of Public Radio in Colorado a couple of decades ago, and I agree NPR and many stations have drifted way too far into the political left. “Public” radio means objectively covering what is of common interest, and cannot be an activist arm from left or right. The sad thing in this discussion is that the actual primary reason for public radio and broadcasting is to ensure all geographical and economic parts of America have access. That has entirely been lost in this debate.
