The answer is usually one of three things:
1. Tripped
2. Dropped
3. DeSeaned

18:09 That chase down by Adam Vinatieri was legendary, he doesn’t even have the angle and Hershel Walker has a full head of steam, he’s a kicker and he tracks him down holy 😮

People are going to drop passes, and even fumble when hit, but the ones that should not happen are the showboating players celebrating early, dropping the ball before the goal line, or slowing down (Deon Sanders tackled by the punter was awesome!).

Don Beebe running his ass off to stop a touchdown late in a game his team is getting slaughtered in will forever be my favorite play.

0:00 - The 'Daniel Jones'
0:34 - The first of MANY dropped balls
1:03 - Horn was rightfully furious at the zebra
1:22 - The 'DeSean Jackson'
1:44 - At least this one allowed Peyton Manning to get his seventh passing TD of that game
2:09 - Not quite hard enough for Santonio, it needs to be on European Extreme difficulty
2:26 - Another drop, and it'll only get worse from here
2:45 - The 'Tony Romo'
3:08 - NEVER commit the cardinal sin of letting off the gas
3:55 - The 'Leon Lett'
4:17 - And here's Tyreek getting a bad case of the drops
4:27 - Remember when no one on the Chiefs could catch a football? They somehow still won the Super Bowl
4:55 - Ted Ginn Jr. drops a touchdown pass
5:10 - Ted Ginn Jr. drops a touchdown pass...AGAIN
5:29 - Martavis Bryant couldn't get off the damn WEED-UH
5:42 - The type of drop that unleashes pissed-off Aaron Rodgers
5:59 - One of the greatest kickoff returns ever, and it was all for nothing
6:34 - This is the literal textbook example of a shoestring tackle, by the punter no less
6:59 - Trubisky sucks, and when he doesn't suck, his receivers suck
7:15 - When it hits your numbers, that's when you know the drop is bad
7:32 - Dear lord, Fleeter wasn't even moving and he still dropped it
7:44 - The literal worst-case-scenario, and it won't be the last time
8:04 - Case in point, and there's much more to come
8:28 - The Chargers summed up in one play
8:43 - I don't blame him for worrying about where Thomas was, but at least make sure the ball is secure
9:20 - Yes, even Heisman winners have their gaffes (I don't care what the NCAA says, Reggie Bush did nothing wrong)
9:35 - I know that defenders don't handle the ball very often, but at least get the fundamentals down
9:49 - The worst drops always seem to be at the worst times
10:01 - Giants fans, it wasn't just Evan Engram who had no hands
10:13 - Remember Tom Brady's final year, when none of his receivers could catch a football?
10:26 - Another beautiful Rodgers bomb that wasn't handled properly
10:39 - The worst kind of failed trick play is when the tricky part is done perfectly
10:50 - Hunter Smith, the ONE punter that got the better of Deion Sanders
11:12 - And he also got the better of Desmond Howard
11:33 - He beat everyone but the turf monster
12:00 - If you have to jump, you weren't positioned well-enough
12:10 - This one was literally painful
12:22 - Darnold sucked on the Jets, and when he didn't suck, his receivers sucked
12:31 - That feeling of dread when you run out of gas
12:50 - That was foolish, Julio Jones only catches non-touchdowns
13:04 - The Detroit Lions summed up in one play
13:19 - Watson on the Browns sucks, and when he doesn't suck, his receivers suck
13:34 - What's the returner supposed to do when no one blocks for him?
14:21 - Another textbook shoestring tackle, again by the kicker
14:39 - Another forced fumble for a touchback
15:04 - If you're going to stat pad, at least make sure to finish it properly (also, longest non-touchdown play ever?)
15:32 - The Pickett-Pickens connection fails
15:43 - Some drops come back to bite you later
15:53 - Lockett didn't quite lock it down
16:04 - Another classic dropped touchdown pass
16:16 - From one of NFL Throwback's favorite games
16:33 - It doesn't get much worse than dropping the pass that gives your team a first-round bye
17:24 - When you come up one yard short...no, not THAT one yard short, just in general
17:38 - When they show the Leon Lett play in film study, you're NOT supposed to imitate it
18:00 - It was never a gimmie when Adam Vinatieri was the last guy to beat, not even for Herschel Walker
18:21 - Weeden sucked, and when he didn't suck, his receivers sucked
18:30 - The infamous 'OBJ vs. Josh Norman and the kicking net' game
18:48 - This is a common clip for this sort of montage
18:57 - Based on what the analyst said, it must've been one of those days for the Bears
19:25 - This is an average Tuesday for the Vikings, and caused by the guy who blasted Terrell Owens on the Dallas star no less
19:45 - Don't worry, it was only Ed Reed's first interception of many, he learned his lesson
20:14 - Another one where he beat everyone except for the turf monster
20:28 - Apparently whatever curse the Chargers have is contagious
20:43 - And he would've gotten away with it too if it wasn't for that meddling sideline
20:53 - He beat everyone except for his own teammate
21:11 - This is almost worse than what Leon Lett did because the only person forcing the fumble was himself
21:30 - NEVER challenge Darrell Green to a sprint, and no, Hall of Fame running backs aren't exempt
21:50 - I SAID TO NEVER CHALLENGE DARRELL GREEN TO A SPRINT! NO, HALL OF FAME RUNNING BACKS AREN'T EXEMPT!
22:02 - DK Metcalf running down Budda Baker never gets old
22:29 - Zay Flowers dug his own grave on that drive, and my parents and I thought that even at the time
22:46 - You might be a fullback, but even fullbacks should be able to catch that
22:53 - You'd be surprised at how disturbingly often game-losing drops happen
23:07 - The pandemic season, that's what was going on
23:20 - The most INFAMOUS dropped touchdown pass in NFL history: "Oh, bless his heart! He's got to be the SICKEST man in America!"

23:37 - RANT INCOMING! I am sick and tired of people lambasting this play call. This is a major hot take, but I am willing to do a deep dive to explain why I think it was a better call than running it. From the standpoint of reading the defense, New England had eight in the box, and I don't like my chances running the ball against eight in the box, even if I have Barry Sanders in a jumbo formation. Marshawn Lynch obviously isn't Barry Sanders, so passing the ball is the obvious call. As for the play design itself, it's actually a Pete Carroll special that he's used quite a bit over the years against man-coverage looks on the goal line, and it can be symmetrically flipped to either side of the field. The basic concept is that on whichever side the quarterback throws to, two receivers will line up there. The inside receiver is there as a decoy whose job is to rub the defensive back covering him. The outside receiver's route is behind the rub and then into the end zone, where the quarterback will do a pre-planned throw, and if the defensive back covering him tries to follow him behind the rub, it's an easy touchdown. The ONLY way this play fails is if the defensive back doesn't follow the receiver behind the rub and instead takes a direct path to where the ball is thrown to, which had never happened before Super Bowl XLIX, and hasn't happened since. What Carroll didn't foresee was that Bill Belichick had run this specific play in practice because he knew that it could potentially be called at some point, and that Malcolm Butler was burned repeatedly on it. So, it's 2nd & goal to go from the 1, with the game in the balance. Butler, who'd been burned two plays earlier on Kearse's incredible catch, is frantically subbed in by the coaches because they think that Carroll is about to call that particular design. When Butler lines up on the outside, it's almost as if a lightbulb clicked on in his head, because instead of chasing the receiver like he'd done in practice, he takes a direct path to where the throw will be and picks it off to win the Super Bowl. The design didn't fail because it was a bad design or because it was the wrong call for that situation, it was beaten by one of the greatest defensive plays ever made.

As a Ravens fan, I knew the Flowers fumble inches before the goal line during the 2024 AFCC would be here, and it still hurts.
