Google made a mistake when it used this overly simplistic blue marketing funnel to represent the customer journey, because it's not accurate for ANY customer journey. This is simply dumbing-down the concept of a user journey funnel. What Google SHOULD have done was use a more accurate, more detailed funnel image, and the juxtapose labels on that funnel to show when, where, & how Google Analytics can help identify and quantify stages of the user journey.
