Because if they got 3 they would be down 1 and quick foul most they’d be down for intensity to tonal foul is 3 if lakers hit both free throws. Vs if they initially shot for two they’d been down 2 if they made the shot. Then quick foul and lakers hit both free throws it’s a two possession game cuz they’re down 4. So 3 was def the smart play.
