How To Decline An Invitation Politely and Confidently 💌

You really don’t want to go. Can you just say no? What if they ask why? What do you say? I think we have all been in this uncomfortable conversation where you don’t want or can’t accept an invitation but you don’t know what to say or how to say it.

As with many challenging conversations it’s not so much what you say but how you say it.

In this video I offer suggestions on what to say to politely decline an invitation. They are:

✅ express appreciation for the invitation

✅ pay a compliment

✅ offer an honest reason you are declining the offer ( less detail is more in this case).

If it’s something you wanted to but cannot attend, schedule another meeting or lunch to show you are really interested just not able.

If it’s something that you really do not want to attend (a date or a call etc..) be direct and honest but kind.

Follow the same process ( appreciation, compliment) then be direct and honest in your response. It may feel awkward but you are being respectful by being direct and making sure there isn’t any misunderstanding.
