Thiva

Thiva is a city in Greece on the site of ancient Thebes in the region of Boeotia .
Thiva is situated 90 km northwest of Athens on the southern edge of the fertile Boeotian plain, north of the Kithairon .
Already in the 3rd century B.C. The city, which was largely destroyed in BC, flourished again during the Roman Empire and developed into the economic center of Central Greece in the Middle Ages. However, under Ottoman rule it largely lost its importance. During the Greek liberation struggles , it was repeatedly the scene of military action and was devastated. It suffered further devastation from earthquakes in 1853 and 1893. Thebes was then rebuilt.
