Fleetwood Mac ~ Gypsy 1982 Classic Rock Purrfection Version

After the touring and promotion of Tusk ended, the band turned to a more commercial sound than that experimental album. Once the band decided to record the next album, Lindsey had already released "Trouble" but the mint fresh pop of that record was reflected in the Fleetwood Mac collaboration of "Mirage".

I have been reading a lot about Fleetwood Mac and it turns out that they turned to Lindsey for some direction and instead of going ahead and keeping his music to himself, used the best of it to record as Fleetwood Mac.

It was a successful move as "Mirage" returned the supergroup to the top of the Billboard charts since "Rumours" and went double platinum in the US.

Nicks wrote the song in 1979 and she recorded a demo with the idea of including it on her debut LP "Bella Donna" but when her friend Robin Anderson died, Nicks thought better of the song and held it back for inclusion on "Mirage".

The first single issued was Christine McVie's "Hold Me" that peaked at #4 on the Hot100. "Gypsy" was the second single issued and it spent three weeks in the peak position of #12 becoming the most popular single from "Mirage".

The inspiration for "Gyspy" came from a nostalgic look back at her life before Fleetwood Mac. The line "back to the velvet underground" not referring to the 60's group but rather the shop where she and other rock legends like Janis Joplin and Grace Slick bought their clothes. The reference to "the floor I love" was literal, as Buckingham and Nicks slept on a mattress on the floor during their salad days and remembering who she was back in da day.

My late wife Heather liked this song. Hearing it now takes me back to riding in the car with her, singing along to the radio. Good times.

1982 has got to be one of the best years in history for music. It just had the perfect groove among all genres.

Fleetwood music has that rock, R&B cross over magic like Journey, Hall & Oaths, The Stones that makes music with a unique flair. Thanks DJ!
