Keiller's London first walk - Vauxhall to Strawberry Hill (4K)

This is the first walk in Patrick Keiller's seminal film London, shot in 1992, where Robinson and the unseen narrator set out from Vauxhall to walk to Strawberry Hill in Twickenham which Robinson declares is the birthplace of English Romanticism.
My walk took me from Vauxhall Park through Stockwell and Clapham North to Clapham Common, then Wandsworth Common and Earlsfield. I then passed between Putney Heath and Wimbledon Common and through Alton Estate, Roehampton to Richmond Park.

The influence of Le Corbusier is clear, particularly in the eleven-story slab blocks which were inspired by a visit to the recently completed Unité d'Habitation in Marseilles.

Very late to the party but I only saw London yesterday on Mubi; I was blown away, an absolutly brilliant film, I can't believe I hadn't either seen it or know of Keiller until that point. I didn't know anything about Keiller until then, and I immedialty thought of your films, John. Of course, when I put in his name into YouTube you immedialty came up. Everything is connected...

God. The music "Pachabelly" must one of the most beautiful pieces of music that I have heard in years. What a wonderful discovery this has all been.

I have always adored Keiller’s film LONDON, ever since I first saw it as a Fine Art degree student at Falmouth Art School in 1997. They had a copy in the art school library. I feel like it changed my life completely. And then later Robinson In Space. Have watched both films over and over. It’s wonderful to see your walk dedicated to such an important film and I love the reverence you obviously have for it. I’ve often visited places featured. It resonates so much with me too. Wonderful video

Really enjoyed this superb and beautifully made film. I love the film London and this is a wonderful companion piece. Would highly recommend watching this film before seeing London. It also communicates so well why the film London is so cherished by those that love it.

Absolutely fantastic walk John. This was a great tribute to Keiller’s film. Funny how many parallels resonate today. Also glad to finally see you get to Richmond Park which I haven’t seen since my trip in London twenty years ago.

One thing annoying about the end or the year and the beginning of another, the days are too short! You can fight the cold, the wind and rain but you can't make the sun shine longer. Never mind, great video never the less! Thanks once again for more fascinating content. I must now find the film that this was based on.
