This reached me thirdhand, but a screenwriter once said the easiest way to make us like a character is to have them be good at their job.

Fat props to the props department! The rifle not only looks realistic (while also alien), the way the Jackal is able to assemble it, absolutely sells the whole scene. Amazing work!

I love how he refers to the target as “the gentleman”.😂

The gun was made by British gunsmith the late Derek Fearn at his Catton Hall workshop from an old BSA .22LR rifle and supplied to the film production company via a third party. Derek was never credited with the job.

Cyril C is absolutely brilliant in this: that mixture of pride in his work, apprehension and plain fear as he knows he is dealing with a monster…

I just love how gentlemanly they are discussing all this, as if it were a client asking to make a custom watch instead of an assassination weapon.

I like how the gunsmith is polite, humble and yet proud of his work. That's professional class!

When the gunsmith greets the Jackal at the door he appears to recognize him and invites him in which leads me to believe that either they have worked together in the past or that the introduction has been made nu a mutual contact who both trust implicitly. Either way, very well acted, a masterful scene.

I love how professional the two of them are, talking about the target in a totally unemotional capacity.

£1, 200 in 1962 would be the equivalent of £32, 000 or $42, 000 in today's (2024) money. A good rate for 2 weeks of work.

Crazy to think that in only 3 days just over 46, 000 have watched this specific clip, Goes to show the quality and rewatch ability of this classic

0:21 love this bit..."Yes, that's a pity" about the short barrel, then thinks very hard for a moment.

Simply one of the best films ever made, according to me….

This is one of those movies I could watch over and over and not get bored, it's so well written and acted. They don't make them like this anymore as they say.

When a Movie is as good as this one a remake should never be attempted because it just isn't surpassable...Edward Fox is absolutely Brilliant

Don't we just love to see professionals at work.

The gunsmith seems genuinely hurt that the Jackal did not want his custom made attaché case too. I mean it was a matched set, he was sure to have spent as much time on the case as he did on the rest of the project. Fantastic acting and detail.

Love the simplicity compared to modern versions with heavy complex heavy large calibre autos. This is class

Watched this again recently before watching the series remake, I like the way the Jackal deals with his professional suppliers as opposed to those more unprofessional.
