Gamma rays vs. abnormal blood vessels (3D Animation)

preview_player
Показать описание
Stereotactic radiosurgery treats arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), abnormal tangles of blood vessels in the brain. It delivers highly focused radiation beams to the AVM, causing the blood vessels to scar and close over time.

THAT'S GENIUS! it solves a problem: if the laser came from a single source it would melt the tissue which is on the path towards the avm but weaker laser just phases through whoever came up with this is really, really smart

my late father had this done on a brain tumor. Unfortunately, it was a very aggressive type of brain cancer, hence "late"

It's amazing how far we've come in terms of medical advancements. I hope we can make these developments more accessible to the people.

I had an AVM rupture when I was 12, I’m now in my first year of university getting my BScN. I didn’t have the gamma knife but I went through 2 craniotomies (1 to initially remove the AVM and another a year after because it had regrown) but other than a few minor sensation issues in my left side I’m decently recovered :)

oh yeah I had my AVM pop open before and caused my right side of my body to be paralyzed
Had to do this so I wouldn’t have to worry about anymore brain bleeds

It’s incredible just how many aspects of life in this age are being COMPLETELY changed by our understanding and harnessing of the power of light. Motion to call this “the light age.” The space age is over. This is next.

I have AVM. Never had any sort of surgery, but the thought haunts me daily

Seeing other comments saying they have it too is sooo helpful. I feel so alone. Knowing y’all have had surgery and lived is great also… I saw scientific journals explaining how people die within 5 years of the removal surgery at a very high percentage.

Wait, if you destroy the 'tangled' blood vessels, does that mean you just disconnected multiple 'functioning' blood vessels?

What happens to the blood? Do they get rerouted? As far as I know, if you detach a blood vessel and did NOT reattach it to another blood vessel, the blood will clump in that end of the segment where you made the disconnection. And we're talking 'multiple' tangled blood vessels here.

I feel like this video failed to give us the complete details about this whole procedure.

As someone who had AVM which exploded/ leaked and had a cerebral hemorrhage.

I want people to check them self. As it’s usually from birth. And it’s a ticking bomb.

I was 11.
