In this video I talk about how many watermelons to grow per plant. This question is a one that I get a lot. If they grower wants many melons then the answer I give is to let one melon per vine. This means if there are 5 vines then let the plant have 5 melons on the plant. The backyard farmer has the advantage to do this because they don't have large fields of watermelons. The melons will be smaller because it takes a lot of energy to produce this fruit. Now if the backyard grower wants to have larger melons they will need to prune the fruits or vines. I suggest going down to 2 melons per plant. I would let 2 vines carry 1 melon on each. The melons will definitely grow to a larger size. The last category is growing large melons for competition. These growers will grow one melon per plant. This will ensure that the melons grow to their max size. If backyard growers fertilize like farmers who grow large fields of melons, will not have to prune their melons.

Awesome video, I tried my hand at growing watermelons this year in my back yard. I've never seen my kids so happy and focus on gardening until they popped out the ground,

I talked to you last year about growing watermelons and yes I have to agree less is more and the size of the watermelon is more satisfying. Thanks for all your advice Bear Brown 👍

I tried something new this year..instead of planting them in my garden, I used my tiller and spaced 12 big holes at the end of my garden, made hills and planted 3 per hole. Theyre looking great in the virgin soil and i know they'll appreciate all the free space

Slices of onion also helped as well for me. Every 2-3 days like 3 times and they were gone forever

I just stumbled across your channel. I have 5 watermelon plants growing. Can't wait to see how they do. I'm also about to binge all of your melon growing videos from last year. Fingers crossed that this Mississippi heat gives me some good melons!

I hope you enjoyed your days off! Nothing like garden time. I’m excited to grow some watermelons again here in Minnesota zone 4. I grew small varieties last year. But this year I’m trying some big varieties! Now I know to expect one per vine. Thanks for the info!

I planted sugar babies and sugar pumpkins for the first time this year. So far they look good. I used garden soil and home made compost to get them going. I love your pest control system! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.

I dont know why but YouTube sent me here. I think they did it for the watermelons but I am admiring the woodchips covering the ground and making sure no ground goes exposed to the sun. 👍

Garlic, mint, lavender and some others are good for keeping pest away. Also if you can get an abundance of ladybugs, or praying mantis. They will do a clean sweep on pest.👍

Great information! I just found your channel and have watched about 5 of your videos. I've struggled growing watermelons over the last couple of years. I'm in zone 6 and thought that maybe my climate wasn't suitable. But after seeing some of your techniques I'm going to try this thing again. A quick tip that you might want to use in your garden...ad some flowers. Flowers or pollinators will help attract beneficial insects that will help control the insect pests and your wife will appreciate the beauty they bring to garden. Keep growing something tasty.

Nice presentation. Rough growin season in southeast Louisiana this year, or atleast for me. Had a couple melons crack because of the heat. My cantaloupe and honey dews are growing good now that the temp has come down to manageable levels. Now i have fruits growing everywhere and i was lookin for options. Thanks for your time and sharing some knowledge.
