I have had my two SL1200 for 28 years now and I will never sell them. They brought me so much joy over the years, one of the best things I ever bought.

Honestly, these days I'd be okay with a Frankentechnics, as long as it works well, the seller is honest about it and the price is okay. It's always good to get a few hints on what to look for, of course, so thanks for this video, it will certainly help quite a few people.

Thanks for all your comments on this one, everybody! One thing I’d like to address as I see a couple of comments related to it…

The reality is, that as magic as these classic decks are, there ARE some very good alternative choices out there, mostly based on the Hanpin Super OEM platform. We’re talking about things like the Reloop 7000/8000s. Check out my review of the 7000mk2s for a full explainer.

One of things I like about Jay’s channel is that, as devoted as he is to all things Technics, he still has respect for such alternatives too, just as I do.

So if you’re struggling to find a really trustworthy set of 1200s at a price you can afford, don’t feel bad about going for some Super OEMs instead. They’ll serve you very well.

It’s like the auto industry .
Auto mechanics and car part dealers have been experiencing this for ages. It’s good to know someone you can trust.

I'd stress that a "frankendeck" isn't a bad thing on its own as long as it's represented truthfully. Most of these parts are 100% interchangeable, and it's probably better that the deck reached you with working parts from the wrong make of table than broken.

It's only when people claim that the deck is near mint that it's a problem.

Had my 1210 mk2s’ for 20 years and like other people commenting, I’d never sell them. Great video and this bloke knows what he is going on about. Thank you 🙏

I just spent waaaay too much money on the 50th Anniv. SL-1200M7LPA. I have an older SL I fixed that I'm using now...works flawlessly!

I own a pair of SL-1210m5G, and had no idea about the different between them and the Mk2 (which I’ve owned multiple pair and serviced them). But this opened my eyes and has me inspecting all my decks 😂😂

Don’t worry, I’ve said Tech nicks my entire life as well, and I just recently started working for a DJ gear shop and it is so hard to train myself to pronounce it differently! At least it’s not another Berenstein/Berenstain bears situation though, my brain wouldn’t be able to handle that

Thanks for the tips..
I’m a Sub and now a Sub of Jay’s, I’m guessing he’s the same guy that fixed a fellow DJ’s turntables..
He’s not far from me and sounds like a genuine guy, so I’ll be contacting him about my own pair very soon 🙏🏻👍🏻 Thanks again

Thanks @Mojaxx for interviewing Jay. I have been follow his YT channel for a hot minute. My 35 year old MKIIs could use a little TLC, but have no idea how to service or where to take them in Western US.

Have you ever interviewed Stokyo World in California? They sell refurbished Technics that go through an inspection process from what I read.

Stokyo is even selling their own version of the Record Mate now. Talk about retro tech!

Cheers and catch you on twitch! 🤙🏼

I own a pair of M3D's from new in 2003 what I like best about them over a mk2 is the clickless pitch, power switch has anti accidental knock off cover and cosmetically the slipmatt has that new age mirrored logo freshens them up...

This is very educational about Your Tech's...for the first time in 20 years of ownership of mine, never knew the plastic cover came of for the brake adjustment!...I jus got MK2's...( no space between the K & 2)

Great video, I recently "retired" my pair of 1200 LTD UK in sunny Spain, I spin them every now and then but their main purpose now is to decorate 😁
