China preparing for potential ‘trade conflict’ with Donald Trump

Former Australian ambassador to the United States Arthur Sinodinos has delved into how US President-elect Donald Trump’s tariffs will affect the world.

Mr Sinodinos said if China’s growth is affected by higher US tariffs it will flow on to Australia.

“It may be that President Trump is just using the threat of higher tariffs to get a concession from others, particularly the Chinese,” Mr Sinodinos told Sky News Australia.

“The Chinese have shown the other day, they’ve just put together a very big stimulus package for their economy, that they’re getting ready for a potential trade conflict with President Trump.”

I get the impression that just about ALL countries seem to believe that the US can do whatever it wants, and no repercussion would come to them. The US's self confidence come from such preconception. But let's look at it in another way...

What makes USA strong is its military. What makes its military strong is the alliances such as NATO, AUKUS, QUAD, etc. Now imagine nations tell USA that "no man is an island". USA gets its strength from the various allies, military bases, with Darwin as the developing one at that. If Australia is to tell the US that if it imposes trade policies that would harm it, US can just bugger off. It is about time to play hardball, grow a spine. Elbow and ALL Australian governments rolled over for the US without fail. I bet US would blink first !
