Tried it on a Dell PowerEdge R740xd. I first tried the upgrade, was prompted to reset the PW. When i rebooted and tried to to login, the password failed. Thinking i might have fat fingered something, or maybe i had the case wrong, i re-did the upgrade, making sure to reset the password again. I finished out the upgrade, and tested my login - still not working. So i tried the GParted Live thing, and i can get it to options screen, which asks what you want to boot too. If i chose either one of the top options, the menu goes away, and it just stares at me, doing nothing. I've also tried other distros as well, including Knoppix, Ubuntu, openSUSE, and Fennix - none of these worked. I've yet to find a resolution.

Niyas what do u mean by nearest release esxi? lets suppose i have Esxi 6.5. is it mandatory to install and preserve data with the same version or i can also use Esxi 7.0 image to do that?

Thank you so much! You made the same error as I did, instead of umount you typed unmount like I did 😆

I follow and it work. I got two HP proliant one gen 9 work but gen 8 did not read the usb. So I tried to swap the hard drive out to the gen 9 so i can do the password recover but after reaching (Tar -xf local.tgz) it stop and telling me it was not permitted. Any idea? Gen 8 is not really reading the usb. I formatted to ntsf to fat to fat32 and exfat and non work. That is why i remove all the drive and put in one that work but it did stop working at the procedure above. Thanks
