Notes for Juz 2 – A Summary
-By Shaykh Dr. YQ
2nd part of surah al Baqarah.
• Those were the communities of the past, they will be accountable for what they did and you will be accountable for what you did. Neither group will be questioned about other group.
• You are accountable for your actions. (One of the fundamental message of Quran).
• 4 pages esp. dedicated for the change in quibla.
• From Jerusalem to Mecca.
• For 13 yrs the quibla was baith al maqdis.
• Prophet SAS would face both while in mecca but in medina only one was possible.
• The independence from other faiths i.e. the change of quibla.
• Yes we have our prophets associated in other faiths but our Islam is the only true faith.
• Islam is breaking the original quibla before Islam (i.e. jerusalem) but the new quibla is the foundation laid by our father Ibrahim AS i.e. the first and foremost.
• So face qaaba where ever you are.
• V.177 if you find it difficult face where possible you will find Allah.
• Don’t be literal fanatics. True righteousness is the righteous actions.
• Only surah which mention details of Ramadan and fasting, its procedure (V.187).
• Fasting is for god consciousness. I.e. everything has wisdom and reason.
• Those who can’t fast feed the poor etc.
• Allah wants ease for you. Yes there are matters which we find difficult but the widom of our rubb is above all.
• Ramadan is the month of Quran so fasting is prescribed for you.
• Quran is linked to Ramadan before fasting.
• V.186 if my servant’s ask you about me then tell them indeed I’m close, I’ll respond to the one who make dua to me so let him make dua to me.
• Ramadan – quran, fasting, dua.
• V.170 when it is said to them follow the truth they say we’ll follow our ancestors.
• Majority of time people reject the truth is due to clash with their ideology of ancestors.
• Quraish rejected the Quran and Islam bcz of this same reason.
• Allah is knowledgeable above all culture etc.
• Allah says what is your ancestors were wrong. On the Day of Judgment the one who was followed cut his link of his followers.
• One the day of judgment all are alone. We are accountable so use our intellect.
• V.216. verse of war/fighting.
• Allah know what is right and wrong.
• Ethical value, right and wrong is not known by us. Allah knows what is right and wrong.
• In Islam war is not for the sake of this world, it’s for the sake of Allah.
• Civil war and anarchy is even worse than legitimate war.
• V.251 were if Allah not to allow some people to fight over the other the equilibrium of this world will not be held. Allah is full of mercy towards his creation.
• V.256 there is no compulsion in religion, yes the Umayyad’s was spread but only the civilization (borders) was spread not the religion. Slowly but surely people came to Islam, it was not forced upon them.
• Legitimate peace war theory is only found in Islam, yes there are people who misinterpret those verse, only a minority.
• First commandment of hudood (penalities), Islamic shariah punishments.
• Extremist use these verses, so pay attention. Islam is pragmatic in all aspects.
• V.178(retaliation of life for life).
• In these laws Allah says there is your own life (the law is for your protection).
44:45 PLEASE WATCH THE LECTURE AT THIS TIMESTAMP. THE POINTS MENTIONED ARE PROFOUND.
• Whoever is forgiven by his family then let him follow with goodness and paying a financial penalty.
• The right to execution of law is laid by the killed one’s family. Even if one person of the family says to forgive the killer is forgiven.
• Allah even says it’s better to forgive.
• The fact is that these laws are barely implemented bcz it is so complicated to meet all the conditions.
• So o Muslims study the details of these laws.
• 3.5 – 4 final pages is about charity, finance etc.
• Whoever gives in the cause is like giving one grain it comes as 700 grain.
• V.254. spend from the wealth we have given
• Approx. ten verse later Allah says spend from what you earned.
• Yes we have to work and earn.
• Satan discouraging by poverty and encourage immorality but Allah promise forgiveness and even more.
• V263. A good word is better than charity followed by oppression.
• Give charity and be humble.
• V255. Ayat al kursi.
• Ubayd RA was asked by prophet SAS which is the best verse of Quran he replied it is ayat al qursi.
• The most powerfull ayat.
• The grand name of Allah.
• Whoever recites ayat al qursi after every fard salah then nothing is in between him and jannah except his own death.(20 seconds investment after every salah can get you jannah)
• Refer various tafsir of ayat al qursi online.
• Last two verse of al Baqrah were gifted to the prophet at the night if isra from the treasure under the throne.
• Whoever recite it every night before sleep Allah will suffice him.
• Allah will not test someone beyond his capacity.
• The beautiful dua at the end of surah. Each time a servent utter those dua allah will reply to him “You are granded”.
• V.143 (total verse 286. 286/2= 143. i.e literal middle of surah) Allah says this is how we made you a best, middle, moderator nation (“Ummathan vasatha”). We are a role model of this religion.
• *my own point* the people of other faith doesn’t read the quran directly but the read your actions so be a better muslim.

I’ve tried to cover all points as possible so it became a little bit longer.
Consider me in your dua may allah bless us all.

JazakAllah khairun Shaykh, I did as you suggested and read the English translation after watching your lecture. SubhanAllah it is the first time that the English translation has been so clear for me to read and understand. Every attempt beforehand just felt difficult to make sense of. It’s as if the fog has cleared and I can read the Quran in its full glory and understand it.
I cannot thank you enough. May Allah swt reward you immensely.
