Police departments should not be allowed to investigate themselves, utterly ridiculous.

When the cops has to pay out of their pockets that's when shit will change

All settlements for police misconduct need to be paid out from the police retirement fund. Why should the taxpayers fund police abuse of the public????

I'm a former deputy sheriff and I think that this blatant violation is grounds to have the officer's fired.

Imagine costing your employer 8.25 million and you get a promotion. McDonald's has stricter employment retention standards. Everyone gets upset when people say "defund the police" but are perfectly okay with the police defunding the city and taxpayers.

The promotion of the officers really got to me... Not only were they not held accountable for what they did, but got a reward??? This is America.

The simple fact that, despite losing the case, the top brass of that law enforcement agency claims the deputies "did nothing wrong", is a clear indicator of how deep the issues of racism, discrimination and bias are entrenched in that department. To boot, the deputies were also promoted, following the incident, is unconscionable.

This money should be deducted from police budget

The sheriff needs to be fired and it needs to come out their pockets not the people

I am glad the victims had the courage to refuse the settlement and go to a jury trial.

The sad part is the family initially thought the police were there to warn them about the car break-ins, making sure they stayed safe while waiting in the parking lot. 🙄. It kind of sends a secondary message that they are not seen as being worthy of safety; only of being suspicious and profiled.

Why is it that it cost the city 8.25 million dollars and at the same time, their internal affairs finds that the officers did nothing wrong. If it cost the city several million dollars, something was obviously wrong!

Promoted? Says it all. This is what is wrong with police . Never held accountable

These cops should be fired and go to jail for harassment and assault

As an ex cop, you should take the penalties from the cops pension and not from the taxpayers. This will continue over and over and over again if something doesn’t happen.

That family deserves every penny. Stop profiling people.

The DOJ investigations need to take place and the citizens need to demand answers as to why those officers were promoted.

The saddest part of this incident is the “ officers “ who traumatized this mother and her daughter and cost the county 8.25 million dollars are still with the police.

That's just unacceptable not only are they not fired for what they did they are promoted this is simply incredible!! And the internal affairs investigators should be fired too, saying they did nothing wrong
