Simpler idk how y'all didn't see this:
3x + y = 12
-2x + y = 4
It works because you can cancel the y's then your left with 1x = 8

I don’t even understand how your supposed to get an A for this

If you don’t understand, maybe this may help.
Because y is equal to 4-2x (because you minus the 2x from both sides to find what y is equivalent to)
The y from the first equation (4-2x) becomes the y in the next equation, 3x+y = 12.
Therefore the equation becomes 3x+4-2x = 12
Then to find the x you must -4 from both sides
Then you are left with 3x-2x = 12
And as 3x - 2x = 1x (which is just x),
and 12 - 4 = 8
Then that means x = 8
(Btw I know I’m bad at explaining but I feel like people may be the same as me, not realising that because y=4x-2, it is the same y as in the next equation (3x-y=12) hoped this maybe helped 😊)

I'm so dumb I don't even know wtf I'm looking at

you can just substract them right?

2x+y=4
3x+y=12

substract them with one another and you'll get -1x=-8 so x=8

for less writing we could write x+2x+y=12. Since 2x+y=4, so x+4=12, then x=8... ü

Another Quick one:
(Eq.2)
-
(eq.1)

+y-y gets cancelled
And We are left directly with
3x-2x=12-4
Hence x=8

2x+y = 4 --- equation 1
3x+y = 12 --- equation 2
From equation 1,
Y = 4-2x --- equation 3
Substitute equation 3 in equation 2
3x+ 4 - 2x = 12
4+x = 12
x = 12 - 4
x = 8

This is pretty simple but the elimination method in my opinion is faster. All you have to to is the following:

For the first equation (you could also use the bottom one), switch all numbers before the equal sign to the opposite integer and all equations after the equations to the opposite integer:(___ ____ = - __ __) to (-___ -___= +__ - __)
So we get -2x - y = -4
3x + y = 12
Know just solve
-2x + 3x = 1x or just x
Then the y's just cancel and are just y
Then -4 + (-12)=8
Therfore, y=8

To solve for x, take either top or bottom equation and replace y with 8:
2x + 8 = 4
2x + 8 - 8 = 4-8
2x = -4
X = -4/2 (fraction)
X= -2

All done on 📱

For those who are confused about where did the y comes go, it was because he assumed that the value of y is -2x+4.

Note: This video is for kids. These things are easy for us but not for someone who is new to algebra.

Usually when you have this kind of systems in which one of the variables has the same coefficient in both equations (in this case y) you can just write the two equations in function of y and then equate the right side of the two equations so you gave 3x + 4 = 2x + 12 so you immediately find the x and consequently the y by simply replacing y with the found value in either of the equations. It is a bit faster but has limited applications.

You all commenting on this video seriously need to humble yourselves. This video was created to be instructional and educational, to inform the viewer of something. That is why he is taking a bit of time to solve the problem. So please diminish your massive egos.

You can just use elimination by multiplying the top by negative and adding the equations together solving for x

Hey I just wanted to say thank for making this video Im really big struggling in math lately I feel like I learned something new today I will be coming back to watch more of your videos you got a new fan now I’m new I been trying to pass my pre algebra class I’m in summer school I’m going to be senior next year

Subtract the 1st line from the 2nd line. 3x-2x leaves x; y-y is zero; 12-4 leaves 8, so:
x=8

You should be using elimination, not substitution, for this system of equations.

lol i really want to do elimination method for this its just perfect

Its so much easier.
On the first view you can see that if you substract both equations u can eliminate y imediately: 3x+y-(2x+y)=12-4
Then you get 3x-2x+y-y=8
So x=8
Then simply putting that into one equation: 8*8+y=4
y=-60

Theres a much easier way to do this that i like to use you can write 3x +y
As x+2x+y then substitute the value of 2x+y directly from the 1st equation.
However all problems cannot be solved easily with this method but for some cases its really handy
