Boy, I've certainly learned about the layering of incorrect information on Ancestry. More than once the people IDed as children were born 75 years after the marriage date or the birthdates of the parents.

It's so true, the first week that I had started the membership on Ancestry, I was making a real mess of my tree. Going for every hint and parent connection that I saw. Now it's, prove it to me first. Great common sense video. Truly appreciated.

What is so frustrating to me is finding wrong information about my grandmother in someone else's tree and when given the the correct info, they still refuse to change it even after telling them I knew her for over 30 years.

What chart to use in generating the family tree of “From Cleopatra to Christ”; From Christ to Camelot”. Incestuous relationships - a lot of inbreeding, polygamy, concubinage, harems, polyandry, polyamorous relationships are involved; same-sex partners/consorts showing legal parents not the same as bio-parent (priests); egg/sperm donors in two-moms/dads household. Could they be color-coded. Most importantly, can it be made to show countries parents came from; international places of birth of half-siblings; step siblings of extended families; marriages for alliances. Anybody who can help?

Very, very useful advice. 5 stars out of 5 stars. Thank you! Yes, when I was new to the game and still wet behind the ears, I quickly came to learn how inaccurate death certificates often tend to be. And about a year ago I came across two different soc. sec. application records for a (possible, unproven) child of my 3rd great-grandparents. Same exact info, but one year apart and two different soc. sec. #s. I never did send in to look into it yet, because it's not priority at the moment. But I want to eventually.

I used to do market research for commercial cooking equipment and learned a long time ago to question everything and understand the context. I love what you said about family lore, it gives a hint, but that is really all it does until it can be verified from another source. Another good tip is the use of language qualifiers - Certainly, Probably, Likely and Possibly.

I'm sure you've a video in this series on quality/ reliable sources? I've not found many - so far marriage & land transactions are good- otherwise....
This video is a great starting point. Thank you!
