Spike Jonze was married to Sophia Coppola. Coppola directed Lost In Translation, also starring Scarlett Johanssen, Now watch that movie and Her back to back. There's a reason Jonze chose Johanssen to voice Samantha and it had to do with that.

it was simple. the studios (warner bros) told Jonze that if he wanted his movie released he would have to cast someone who was an "a-list actress" so Scar Jo fit the bill, but I'm like 99% he would've gone with Morton if the studio allowed him
