Instructions, man.

The PL100 is fantastic as a CD TRANSPORT into a 3rd party DAC.

Power it with a 5v/2.4A wall wart _with the included USB cord_ or with a BATTERY PACK that offers at least 5v/2.4A for clean power.

I couldn't be more pleased, even at twice the price.

This is precisely why the dislike counter needs to be reinstated.

For your second video
A nice apology to the
Manufacturer would be
Appropriate

I have this player, and for 100 its a bargain . Solid construction decent rca outs, and improvements with digital outs . Its very quiet also ..
Seems to me some wouldn't be happy if it was free ..

Needs more power my friend! Need to put 5V 2A through a USB C connector and a lot of power supplies won't do that. Raspberry PI 4 power supply puts out 5V at 3 amps and costs 10 GBP.

i appreciate you making this video, especially so early after it has been released
but cheapaudioman made a video about this cd player too
he mentions that it is important to use 5v 2.4a power supply or you will face problems or it will not work correctly
maybe this is the problem you faced?
also is there not much mention or documentation about using the correct power supply from SMSL?

anyways, nice video:)

I’ve run one of these players for about 4 months now. Generally, a majority of my listening is streamed music. This player was purchased for occasional listening and comparing. It is actually a very reasonable player for the money, bearing in mind, as mentioned in several comments already, the 5v power supply does need a supply current of at least 2 amps. The power supply may have been the issue for the reviewer, also trying an alternative c.d. may had solved the problem. The only annoying thing I have found with this player is, when my main power supply board supplying the power amplifiers, d.a.c., streamer, pre-amp and c.d. player, the player has to be switched off, as it is not always used but annoyingly, it powers up on switch on.

I've been digging around the internet looking at these and there's a consensus that they won't read cd's if powered from a low current source; the manufacturer insists on a 2.4VA type rather than an old 'phone charger. This may be something to try before condemning the player? They're about a tenner online but I'm considering a higher quality regulated power supply; can't have too much current reserves for audio products! Thanks

For the price and company reputation, i'm buying!

I got one but it needs 5 volt and 2.5 ampere eg. an iPad charger. SMSL sent me this information.

you are very quick to judge the product but not so quick to ask yourself if you could have done better. those who can, do. those who can't, etc.

You say it's a first look video but you turned it into a negative review on the product without reading the manual or reading the labeling for power source on the unit itself, which takes 2 seconds maybe? Not a good first video man. By the way, knowingly inserting a scratched CD, like you say, is not a good start on your part if you're posting a video of it here. Due diligence before posting? Or just change the title and make it comedic.

This is just a computer cd rom drive in a metal enclosure. If you are having issues with power, check to see if the drive is usb 2 or 3 compliant. They have different power requirements. USB 3 needs more power. Try plugging it into a computer and see how it works with both B and C connections.

Were you using the correct power supply ?

Did you attempt to fix the issue? Does it work now? Are you going to change the title of this? Are you apologizing for a faulty review?

By the way: Are you sure about the Bubbles on the front? I would better unpack the Player properly! When you unpack a Smartphone, you also have a thin plastic sheet on the front, that must be put off before using...OK, not must, but should...lol...
All in all, this CD player is a really good device that outplays others for 350. It´s also a first-class CD Transport. Despite that, it has a built-in DAC with a Cirrus logic DAC-Chip, that does MQA! and has a built-in Headphone Amp. So, if you send this back, it´s your fault when you cannot use it. By the way: I cannot fly an F16, but is it the Jet that´s bad? Or am I not able to fly it properly? What do you think lol...

I don't think there is any question of "area", like DVD or Bluray regarding CDs....
Not the best star at all !!! I really hope for you that it's only a question of power supply.
Good luck and keep us posted ....

I bought 1 and almost return it because the output was inconsistent and jitters.. guess what? Its the power supply. Pump in enough power and it works flawlessly.

Shame, I was expecting good things from that little player, are you having it replaced?

This Device is really good! You just need the proper Power Supply! A simple Phone charger won´t do it! You need minimum a power supply for a rasperry 5 with 5Volt 2, 4A or higher!
T0o review with a phone charger is the same as if testing it with shitty music and then claiming that it sounds annoying!
