Comparing the M1 and M4 Mac Mini, testing speed and performance in an actual session. Seeing if the M4 is worth the upgrade.

Both Macs are base spec and running Ableton Live 12 in native Apple silicon support mode.

Thank you! Every other Youtube channel seems to only compare the M4 Pro model instead of the base M4. Great job!

I just wanna see one person load up a normal 30 tracks and busses with all of the most CPU intensive plugins that we all know gives us a hard time. Great video though, I’m still thinking M4pro cause I also edit videos.

Loving the verdict part; be grateful for what you have, and use it to create stuff that uplift minds!

I think it would be fair to match the sample rates between the sessions as well. The M1 runs at 48kHz while the M4 runs at 44.1kHz-which could be considered a slight advantage. Nice comparison video though. Keep up the good work ;)

i saw this video a month ago because I was thinking that i need some better gear while i cant afford it anyway. after hearing your advise towards the end of the video, I just forgot about some new gear and made music every day since then with the stuff i already have. THIS helped me much more than a new M4 Pro. Thanks buddy! big hug from Vienna, Austria

I've never used more than 50 tracks, so I think I'll be future proof with the m4

Thank you for such a positive and optimistic (and non-materialistic) perspective! Legendary!

Very nice videos, and above all your final speech is perfect, I'm of the same philosophy as you brother. Create with what you have, and squeeze the most out of it. Only in this way do you bring out everything you have inside.

You need to use like 10 and 20 instances of kontakt/analog lab. It will take a lot less tracks to reach the limit but it will be a lot more realistic

why are you testing the M1 at 48khz and the M4 at 41khz again?

Thanks for the video and message. By the way regarding the speaker pushed in dome. Work great some power tape or something sticky to pull that out. As well warming it up with a hairdryer is working all the time.

Do you have the .als file so we can compare it with a Windows PC? I'm planning to finally switch to the Mac environment after using Windows for about 25 years, but I haven't found a video comparison between the M4 and, of course, the endless list of PC CPUs. With an .als project, we could easily compare the M4 with our specific PC hardware.

Are they both 8GB RAM? If they are, how much better is 16 GB? Sorry if this has already been asked.

Great vid! Wondering how they would have performed at 256 buffer size though =)

I would like to see the difference in daw startup, project/plug-ins loading and freezing tracks/export times.
