Great advice, Alyssa. looks like I need to ramp up the disappointment in my novel!

One of my favorite parts of my story was when the protagonist leaves and his only friend believes he was used for information to aid his escape. The main character is so miffed that his friend thinks so little of him that hes in no hurry to try to make amends.
Its one of the parts where there is a lot of internal thoughts, something my book is desperately missing.

This reminds me of “The Once and Future King, ” by T.H. White. There was a scene that I always thought was weird, but because it was weird to me, I remembered it. Lancelot hurt Guinevere’s feelings, and that was when he first started to develop feelings of his own. I don’t remember what he did, but that moment always stuck with me.

I've got a few spots of betrayal, some big and some small, in my finished novel. The challenge is the length of the betrayal where it is felt strong enough.

Good idea. I’m sick of the trope where it’s two friends but their different lives pull them apart and only see each other near the end for like a team up thing. That and trauma bonding seem to be the go to thing.
