I heard Chris Hogan say that about the bear attacking by slashing down and a bull attacks you with its horns in an upward direction.

The problem I have with Daves advice, is that he always assumes people want to retire at 65. He has said over and over "if you invest your $500 car payment, itll be over a million dollars by time your 65". Well, who the heck wants to work until youre 65?! The moment I got my first job out of college, which I really enjoyed, I decided right away that I wanted the freedom to work, not work, work sometimes, work sporadically, travel with my wife and kids, and move around. I didnt necessarily want to retire, I just knew that I wanted the OPTION to retire. After all those years passed, I called it quits at 45. I do some freelance work, and have a nice passive income. Wife and 3 kids, and we roadtrip a lot. My neighbors are truly confused at our situation....as they all have 2-4 car payments, and a hefty mortgage. Me....debt free!

Remember, tomorrow is promised to no one, and a 40 year old is in fact much more mobile than a 65 years old. Whatever you are "waiting" to do at 65, better to do now, because it wont seem as fun at 65.

I like the way the markets were described.

I don't ever worry about markets. But I need to learn to use the down times more.

The timeline is very important, actually. Do you think you will live forever and never have to retire? If you are a year or 2 out from retirement, a bear market is horrible. It's the difference between hundreds of thousands of dollars. So the proper context here matters you 2.

The fact that Dave doesn't know the origin of the names "bull" and "bear" market is very funny to me.

"The market is clawed down by the bear and tossed up on the horns of the bull." I have heard that said many times over the last 40 years.

When the market is way down, and newspapers headlines spell doom and gloom, and everyone you meet is talking like it is 1929, take any spare cash you have on the sidelines and buy buy buy!

For me it doesn't matter bull, bear, or sideways market I'm putting money in every week.

The bear market is not good when you are wanting/needing to withdraw (sell) from retirement accounts instead of purchasing.

Bear markets are exceptional! I wish this one would last longer, but I've enjoyed the '23 ride so far!

A lot of us freak out when the market is down, because we need our gains now. Should folks after 65 get out of the market altogether?

A bear market occurs when a broad market index falls by 20% or more over at least a two-month period. A bull market occurs when there is a rise of 20% or more in a broad market index over at least a two-month period.

this is one reason i find stock options scalp trading much more profitable and interactive you can make money with Calls(Up) or Puts(Down)..it has more manual control and you can buy and sell whenever you choose and take profits within the SAME day.
All you have to do is find your edge in the market, and you'll reduce risk.

The terminology comes from long ago when people sold and traded bear skins. People would sell skins they did not actually own yet because they expected prices to go down. Bulls were assigned the opposite of the bear by a poet and it’s stuck ever since.

This is tricky time for investing. I put a good chunk into a 7 year 7% CD.... For the first time in almost 20 years liquid cash is legit! The average return on your 401k is 7%, now you are guaranteed it in the bank. I am loving this.
