In the garden of a Baroque villa, a chamber orchestra is playing Mozarts wonderful quartets and quintets, and everywhere is pervaded with echoes and references to the composers world. As if by magic or conjured by the imagination, figures emerge from the shadows of the labyrinthine garden: they are Mozarts characters, and they play with or perhaps make fun of the guests at the party, embroiling them in their well-known amorous dalliances. With lightness and irony, this journey into the universe of Mozart tips its hat to the 1700s also with the scenery and costumes, and fills the garden with fun and passionate virtuoso dances, which follow each other dynamically and quickly with constant changes in the mood. Like in a dream where everything is jumbled together, where reality and illusion merge.

Accidentally found this. I don't think I've ever smiled through an entire ballet, or felt such happiness. Some spots made me giggle out loud with delight. But they're so skilled, and it's all so fluid. Adorable. Pretty, right down to the costumes! Flirtations, unexpected movements and postures: Mozart would've loved this. The choreographer is a genius, the instrumentalists are (finally) given a chance to shine, and the dancers so good! The best of the best!

At first, I thought about Balanchine's technical pieces set to classical and military music or just a snare drum (I'd save all my allowances to buy season tickets, take a bus plus the subway, a kid by myself, to see the ballet in the oxygen-only seats). But his pieces, brilliant though they were, were emotionally cold while intellectually brilliant. This piece was so warm with feelings, skill, joy, romance, flirtation, occasional sneakiness... and humor. Balanchine was a new, inventive thing, but this choreographer involved both mind and heart. I can't say enough about it, apologies for babbling.

It's been such a hard past two years for us all, both dancers and audience... these "kids" made me forget and smile, laugh aloud with surprise and delight, even as I was amazed at their skill and strength.

Thank you for choreographing and performing something this imaginative, playful and wonderful, and thank you to Out About for uploading Lover's Garden for the whole world to enjoy. Where I live now is cheap but culturally bankrupt. O, how I hope this company's staying well and will be able to keep performing! We need you all!

If you can't translate the musicality to movement why even
And ballet should stop with infantile pantomiming, leave that to Micky Mouse and Donald Duck. This makes Sleeping Beauty miming look like Shakespeare.
