Galaxy S7: Salt Water Swimming Test - Will I be Sad?

Показать описание
I had some issues with my Samsung Galaxy S7 while swimming in the ocean (Gulf of Mexico) in Florida. As you may already know the Galaxy S7 and the S7 edge is IP68 water-resistant (I did not say water-proof).

- After getting back to shore my sound, headphones, and charging port did not work at all. It took about an hour for my sound and headphones start working again even though it was not perfect until a few more hours later. My usb charging port took about 10 hours to start working properly. Also, because of the movement of the water a few times while video recording underwater it did stop automatically. Other then these minor issues I am still happy with the results.

Let me know if you have any questions and thanks for watching.

Please like, sub, share! Thank you.

It's not for salt water. The charging port is open and there's still electricity on the pins so getting it into salt water will start the oxydation thus corrosion will start instantaniously and the pins will be "eaten"within minutes!Thats why you keep on losing the ability to charge, weak or no connection.

a couple points that might help everyone:

1. salinity levels vary GREATLY in different bodies of example, Miami salt water is far, far saltier than southern Cali salt water...i don't really know why, but it's massive - Miami will have your eyes burning after seconds of exposure...it doesnt hurt you, it just stings like a fukker. Whereas, SoCali water is roughly the same salinity as the human eye and extremely comfy. could be perception based (due to temperature diffs) or it's a real thing...due to shallowness of the gulf or other random geological factors. dunno. needless to say...small salt water bodies ...great salt lake, red sea, etc...are insanely high. the corrosive factors are likely to go up relative to this.

2. Go buy yourself a big bottle of 99.999% Isopropyl alcohol...you can only find it at large electronics stores (it's pretty cheap), do NOT USE the lower grades...90%, 95%, 99%. You can then wash or dunk ANY phone...even the non-water resistant ones in it...even turned on!! Or at the very least, run it under some cold fresh water to rinse off the salt & mineral residue the ocean water has. (obviously only on these water-resistant phones). otherwise, i think there might be a fairly high chance of metallic corrosion or even electrolysis on some of the metals in the charging ports et al. Just rinse it afterwards to be safe.

I brought my S7 into the ocean in Mexico this March. It has been going nuts since. The charger works 50% of the time. When I can't charge it directly with the cord I have to use the wireless charger. The home button works 50% of the time. Sometimes it goes into this crazy loop and keeps bringing up the camera. Don't ever bring this phone into the ocean!

I'll tell you this by experience my good man, a shellphone works better than any s7 any day in the ocean.

If u use it in salted water best to rinse it straight away with clean water and let it dry.
Regarding charging port and headphone jack DO NOT BLOW in it or else you will damage the inside as it's got metal mesh to protect dirt from going in.

Thirdly for the charging port you will have to wait for it to dry out depending on the temp of the place you at. If you can't wait for it to dry out, use a cotton bud ( for cleaning ears). Works wonders ..

don't even try this things as I just clicked few stills in sea water and it was wet for merely 10 minutes and water entered via camera module and device completely shut down immediately....after 2 days of drying in rice it never turned on and after showing to Samsung care they said motherboard gone due to water damage which is not covered under warranty and costing me 220 dollars

I accidentally dropped my S7 in the washing sink. When I pulled it up in less than 1 minute, dried up on the surface. the phone lost the power. It was dark. So, i tried to blow dry it with low heat as I saw on you-tube, and put it in a bag of rice. After 8 hours, I picked a small piece of purple paper from the simcard slot.
It was not a good sign, wasn't it? Was my brand new S7 a goner?

This calms my panicking little heart a little for my S7 that took a 1-second dip in the tub. I should at least be able to get backup codes for my 2FA in case I need to replace my phone.

the reason it didn't charge is because the phone knows there's water in there and it won't charge to keep the phone from shocking itself.

if you use these phones in salt water, you need to wash it off properly with fresh water because the salt will deposit around your ports and block it.

Was there any deterioration of the materials over time?

I've had my phone for about 5 months, I went to the beach with it and it literally just got splashed on and i dried it right away. But the water had somehow got in and my ph got effed up. When going in to get it replaced or fixed as warranty is valid for 1 year I was told that 'water proof in water' only applies to fresh water and not sea water?? is this true?? I can't find anything online that singles out sea/salt water from the 'Water proof/resistant" claim. So dissapointed!!

i took my galaxy s7 in the ocean of Costa Rica trying to make a underwater video.
it was just a half meter deep and about 2-3 minutes in the water.
During the day all worked perfectly, untill the batterylevel is gone to 0.
it doesnt charge anymore!!
Once i could turn it on because it had maybe 1% restbattery and it was soo slow.
I think its dead.... after 2 mins water..
What can i do?
U think the waranty could pay the reparations?
