Claiming that people with disabilities cannot be held accountable for their actions and beliefs is textbook infantilization; these racists are literally being ableist

It’s like minorities don’t have neurodivergence as well, it’s such an odd excuse.

Glad to see my fellow autistics already here seconding the message that autism isn't an excuse or reason to be racist ♥️

They conveneiently forget that Black people and other people of color are also on the spectrum, and we don't act a racist fool in the comments. Hell, I'm black, a woman, and on the spectrum and never tried to gaslight somebody about racism.

The amount of times I've seen "I can't be I'm is ridiculous. Marginalization does not mean you aren't able to be bigoted. And it is never an excuse, or an explanation.

Having a disability will need to be discussed in many different situations, but definitely not for being an and a racist.🤯

I'm autistic and I don't excuse my racism with it. I try to learn and do better next time.

I remember a few years ago, a NBA narrator/newscaster got caught saying the n word and used his type 1 diabetes as an excuse. I was so angry as a diabetic because
1: high sugar makes you more easily aggravated not racist
2: you would never had even said the word if it wasn’t in your vocabulary

Disability is not an excuse for common bigotry and this whole video is correct in every form and way

As someone on the spectrum, we do not claim these people.

As someone that is Black and autistic, I 1000% agree with this; autism is not an excuse for bigotry!

Thank you for saying this. I am autistic and bigotry wasn’t something I always understood because who talks openly about how they’re a bigot? I’m an adult now and I know things now, like how having a disability isn’t an excuse to act like a jerk or to go out of your way to say mean things. I truly thank you for saying this. I could say it all day but I don’t get heard like this.

It’s always something, never accountability for the racism they display when called out.

I would actually argue that saying autism is an explanaition for racism is itself linked to an ableist stereotype - that they're cold, uncaring, and robotic.

Just like dementia doesn’t make old folks racist. The racism was already there. Go away from us with that, Apollo!

As an autistic, I can definitely say that autism is not an excuse for racism or bigotry. Autism didnt make me not trust tans people or think less of other races. It was my own mindset and the content i consumed that needed changing

I am autistic and with many disabilities. None of my disabilities has ever caused me to be racist. Me being white passing has afforded me privilege though and I have in my past use that to express the racism that my family taught me. I grew up and when I found the racism turned on me, I used that as a lesson that I was wrong. Never has it been any of my disabilities but it did reflect on who I associated with more. That old me is something I strive to grow further apart from every day. That is not who I want to be.

I’m an old white guy who couldn’t get into Harvard. I love language. You are a treasure. Thank you for bringing the classroom to me. It’s like having the Christmas tree lights come on sequentially so I get to enjoy each one. I wish you great happiness and health.
And I hope you get rich af. It’d be nice to see the good guys, the people working to make this a better world, get rich enough to make Croesus blush.

I'm white and autistic, autism doesn't cause racism, if you're racist and autistic, you still have to own up to being racist and fix that behavior. I've done shitty things, but I got called out or later learned by myself that that wasn't okay and then I learned and did better, and if I messed up I apologized, tried to fix the situation, and repeated the lesson with myself until it stuck and I didn't mess up anymore. That's our responsibility when we mess up, when we get called out for being racist or sexist or ableist etc. To look into the situation, take accountability for our own actions and words and even thoughts, and learn to do better, fix it.

Disability is never an excuse for bigotry. For every bigot with a disability there are magnitudes more with the same exact disabilities that aren’t bigots.

I'm a high functioning autist and I honestly appreciate the fact that there are things that I've learned from you and a number of other people in my life about actions and words that I've used without second thought about how they could be harmful, and for that chance to change myself for the better I thank you all.
