Wildfire Near Yosemite National Park Grows in Size

A fast-moving wildfire near Yosemite National Park exploded in size Saturday and prompted evacuations even as firefighters made progress against an earlier blaze that burned to the edge of a grove of giant sequoias.

The Oak Fire, which began Friday, southwest of the park near Midpines in Mariposa County, grew to 26.5 square kilometers by Saturday morning, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, or Cal Fire.

As of Saturday morning, the fire had destroyed 10 residential and commercial structures and damaged five more, the Mercury News reported.

Hot weather and bone-dry vegetation caused by the worst drought in decades was fueling the blaze and challenging fire crews, said Daniel Patterson, a spokesman for the Sierra National Forest.

My question is "If a road would be a man made fire break, why can't the "powers that be" extend that with cutting back the vegetation on both side of the road to make it a stronger one ? The video I saw shows inflammable vegetation right up to the side of the road. That's BS.

Why can’t they just cut the trees in certain spots before fire starts and make like squares so if one square burns the fire won’t spread to others

When man wasn't industrialized like today and the forest of trees were greatly more abundant because there was no deforestation if any kind How big were the fires and how long did they burn? Seeing how they were %100 uncontrollable and all man could do is run.

In 1997 Secretary William Cohen, speaking at a conference on Terrorism, said they were able to “create” weather conditions in times of war, in others words make weather conditions to hinder the enemy. His quote found in released FOIA documents was: “Others are engaging even in an eco-type of terrorism whereby they can alter the climate, set off earthquakes, volcanoes remotely through the use of electromagnetic waves. This can be taken as an official position of the United States”. We know the military can seed clouds to make it rain. My question is why aren’t we using these methods like seeding clouds for rain to our advantage to end drought affected areas so these areas will stay moist enough to mitigate the fires that start. If fires start then make it rain to put them out. Why should we use all the ingenuity created just for war? Can’t we use this technology to save houses, trees, lives, etc? Seems like they almost want everything to burn to the ground. It’s common sense, if the military can make it rain, well then, make it rain, you fools.

Seeing that sickens me! It is so beautiful there. I know new growth can come back. It is still very hard to see the damage fire does to the trees above the soil.

We have wild fires every year in California. The amount of taxes collected by the state, they have not come up with a solution to stop or curb them. Meanwhile money is spent on useless issues. The most issues that affect the state is fire and shortage of water. What are the elected officials doing? Extract more money from tax payers!
