There's a much easier way to do this in order to avoid image degradation. Simply take whatever image you have or create using the native/highest quality possible (just needs to be square). No need to measure within your image software, just save as an individual file. Then, drag and drop into MS Word, double click on the image and set to 1.10". I did this yesterday with several images, and created an entire sheet of different gobo's and they all turned out great!

Made my own gobo for the follow spot 75 st with an inkjet transparency. Within 2 seconds of turning it on it burned up the gobo. However it is super bright and I am sure it will shoot metal and glass gobos like a champ.

Best tool I've found to work the retaining ring in and out is a heavy, rubber-tipped tweezers, usually found at beauty supply places or an outlet like Markertek. The ring is more robust than it appears so it can be handled without any fear of breaking. Also remember to keep your other hand over top when putting it in or out. It's as springy as a slinky and can bounce away pretty far making it nearly impossible to find!

What software were you using to make the gobo though? Does it come with it or do you have to buy it seperate..? And can it hold a glass gobo? Thanks!

We use Adobe Photoshop which works on both MAC and PC. You can use any art based software similar.

@chauvetlighting Thanks for the tip, I went ahead and did it! Really easy! Just another question, what kind of transparency paper are you using, the one I bought seems to smudge easy... Even after drying for hours the ink can be smeared off...

Thanks....

Will this work on the go bow then LED to 70 W? The newer one? I feel like it gets very hot and will melt it

I have just begun to make my own gobo's but I am finding that the transparency paper that I bought to print on, made for color from ink jet, has flaws that can be seen on the projection. Any particular transparency suggested?

@DJMaxSmart86 - thanks for the suggestions! We used Photoshop, but any art-based program would work.

@chauvetlighting ok but it is vital to the make your own transparency because you can c the bent part on the gobo.

I've tried making a gobo in photoshop and I just can't figure it out.. Can you please tell me a step by step process or at least how to make the template and add the image? Please and thank you :)

@StarPremierEntertain Hello, we took a ring from our stock to look at, and it does have a bent end. The bent end isn’t vital to operation, but makes getting it out to swap gobos easier. Please e-mail our customer service department at tech [at] chauvetlighting [dot] com with a picture and explain the situation. They will definitely take care of you!

I think a great gobo effect would be duplicating/updating the old shooting star effect from the 1980s....where one gobo with many random dots/holes on solid/black background turns behind a gobo with random dots/holes on solid/black background that stands still...thus when one moving hole passes a still hole the light shoots through..add a strobing effect on a still or moving head fixture would be pretty impressive...we're talking 25+ random beams shooting individually using only one light source and one rotating gobo couse I guess the trick is to have top gobo fixed as the one beneath turns..

VERY NICE I LIKE IT THUMBS UP !

Can you do a video on a gobo with white letters and black background ?

@joshgilson - Thanks for your feedback!

I think to print the gobo, you need to use color gel material like sheets of polycarbonate. Color gels are availbale at DJ lighting stores or arts & crafts shops.
Also didnt see a focus for different distances.
