Crafting a bed on your first day basically requires a nearby village or brick house Roguelike Dungeon entrance (those have a bed on the second floor, as well as a chest with some random loot), otherwise the amount of logs and wool you require to craft one is difficult to manage in so short a time with no tools to start with.

Don't forget about cooking and eating a wide variety of food to gain more hearts! A Healing Axe will keep you going, but a varied diet will keep you *alive*. Especially in the Nether early on, when OP armor/weapons are scarce and options for quick healing even more so. And you have to visit the Nether to complete the Healing Axe quest for the Nether Gardens, might I add.

Remember that GTNH is on version 1.7, so natural health regen is really slow. Laudanum's 10 seconds of Regen III is useful for backing off and getting back some health quickly, at the cost of being useless for those 10 seconds. Not something I would recommend relying on if you're taking on a Roguelike Dungeon, or in general for that matter. But it's something to use if you're desperate.

...Three. There was a bed *right there*. And carpets to craft more of them if you wanted. I'm just saying.

The best early early game foods are the berry types that go into making Berry Medley (Rasp-, Blue-, Black-, Staw-, Cran- and Maloberry), Cantaloupes, and the foods that can be directly smelted into (very slightly) better food, namely Asparagus, Sweet Potato, Tea Leaf, Corn, Eggplant, Grapes and Rice (also Coconuts if you happen to have that fruit tree nearby). Anything you can juice is also good to plant, *especially* if you're near a snowy biome for snowballs. Though do beware Dire Wolves, if you are.

Basic Stone Age lootbags, and to a lesser extent Steam Age lootbags, often give you food. There's no real point to saving them, so open them up and enjoy the free food.

The What's That...? quest isn't necessary until you're ready to go to the Twilight Forest, so it can be ignored until then.

It's worth it to study the different types of Special Mobs in this pack, as some of them have qualities that can make them go from "easy victory" to "certain death". Tough Spiders, in particular, are as their names suggest. Don't bother trying to engage with early game melee weapons, just run away.

Something to keep in mind RE: Biome humidity is that outside of how much water a Railcraft Water Tank will produce it also determines whether a biome gets visible rainfall, and whether GT machines will catch fire and explode when left exposed to the rain. Yes, those are two separate things. IIRC Humidity of <30% will not get visible rainfall, but only biomes with 0% humidity will cause GT machines to be safe outside.

The TiC houses do have extra tool parts in the crafting station, yes. Check them and grab them, because they are often valuable.

Animals of all stripes are indeed prone to cactus-related suicide. It's worth it to craft Pam's Animal Traps and their respective baits in order to slowly generate passive mob drops, including things like leather. It's a very slow process and automating it requires more advanced tech than simply hoppers, but a bit of diligence will pay off nicely. Especially in the kitchen, as you can use actual meat instead of having to grow and process insane amounts of Tofu.

Clay buckets can hold lava (and a variety of other liquids), but they will break after placing down hot liquids. Given the cost of making as many clay buckets as you're going to need lava source blocks in this pack, though, you might as well assume they can't pick up lava.

The F9 chunk overlay has a dedicated ore veins overlay, where it'll show the 3×3 chunk ore field and highlight the centre of it. Actually very helpful during creative testing as well when you want a 3×3 chunk space. You can also double-click on the ore veins in Journeymap and it'll toggle a waypoint of that ore vein. Also note that ore deposits can fail to spawn, so not every ore chunk is going to have ore in it. Usually when a chunk doesn't contain ore it's because the ore vein tried to spawn in an area that didn't have stone for it to spawn in, so it just failed to spawn. This is why pure Tin is very rare to find, as it spawns between Y:60 and Y:220.

Three, you can bonemeal those fruit nodes and they'll produce fruits for you. Like the bonemeal from that "scam" lootbag. You don't have to break them and lose the nodes.

I should point out that world gen in GTNH has been changed since season 1, resulting in large lakes and giant mountains now showing up. I should also point out that terrain generation was bugged in the initial 2.2 update, so grab a later patch if you don't want to be stuck among infinite mountains.

Those are Witchery circles added by...well, I'm sure you can guess. They've got double Witch spawners underneath them so be very cautious approaching them at night, although they can contain very worthwhile loot. I once found 30 Heatry Breakfasts in one of them, and during my own survival playthrough I vaguely remember finding filled Tin Cans in them.

This man said "I really want to rush a bed", next cut 2:30 he walks in and looks straight at a bed, leaves without it. Very excited for New New Horizons

Glad you're going into GTNH again! We'll understand if episodes aren't uploaded every day, don't burn yourself out. Super happy to see this pop up in my recommended.

Who else is restarting just because Three was so good and deserves more support. Even with his departure we can all hope he finds something he enjoys.

To anyone wanting to play this pack after seeing this:

Do realise, Threefold spent 74 ingame days. That is roughly 12 hours of gameplay, what you see here is condensed into 20 times as small a timeframe.
You will be spending 10 hours before even being close to what Threefold did in this episode... do have fun though! But beware of the timesink!

NO WAY!
I started watching your channel in Create: Above and Beyond, and this original series is what got me into Greg Tech. Your way of playing modpacks combined with your personality made you one of my favorite lets players no matter what modpack you play. But seeing you go back to gt:nh makes me happy, although I know how hard this pack is.
Good luck on playing this pack again.

Glad to see you back in GTNH! For clay dust you can make one clay dust by grinding one hardened stained clay with the mortar. This saves you lots of durability on mortars instead of making clay into small piles and all. And since your base is littered with hardened clay, this is a no brainer. I'm hyped to see the next episode!

I don't think I can express how happy I am to see you play GTNH once again. I got to know you and your channel thru this series and it feels so nostalgic to see season 2. It feels like I binge-watched just yesterday...

Loved how you synced up the mining with the music around the 24:00 mark. That was a brilliant touch.

I am gonna actually watch this series now. I wanted to get into GregTech (not NH) for a long time, since it looks like a ton of fun and super complex. I hope your abnormal amount of knowledge will make me understand the mod better!
