Shake It Up ) is an American sitcom that airs on Disney Channel . The first episode of the series was broadcast in the United States on November 7, 2010. In Turkey, it was broadcast as 2 episodes back-to-back on January 28, 2011. Created by Chris Thompson and starring Bella Thorne and Zendaya, the series tells the adventures of two girls named CeCe Jones (Thorne) and Rocky Blue (Zendaya), who are background dancers on a local program called "Show Yourself Chicago". It also records the adversities and problems they experience in and out of, as well as their rising status at school. Davis Cleveland, Roshon Fegan, Adam Irigoyen and Kenton Duty share the lead roles in the series. The original concept of the series was a girl buddy comedy with only a dance aspect, created for Disney. This dance concept is the third Disney original series to use the series-within-a-series format after The Famous Jett Jackson and Sonny's Star .
