Before I retired from my regular work, getting a hot, fresh chicken from Costco for dinner Friday night was a tradition. We had chicken for dinner, and used the rest through the weekend for sandwiches, salads or soup or casseroles, enchiladas, etc. Delicious and inexpensive.

Costco is doing it right. I once planned on just buying $12 make up wipes and a slice of pizza but ended up spending $200 on things I didn’t even know I needed 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Short version: it's what's known as a "loss leader". This is when a store intentionally sells a product for less than what it costs them to put it on the shelf in order to attract customers who will usually buy something else while they're there. Grocery stores do this with milk.

I used to not be a fan of Costco, or any buy-in-bulk store chain for that matter. Then the food lured me in and I love Costco now. From the chicken to the pizza, everything is just perfect.

Costco® has been selling their rotisserie birds since at least the mid 1990s, and perhaps even earlier. I remember pointing out to one of my co-workers how good they were, and this was when I worked in Totem Lake which was from 1993 to 2001.

Keep in mind to buy only newly cooked one. And I don't mind to shop $300+ if their food is very yummy and fresh.
