Chiara Marletto's 'The Science of Can and Can't' Episode 2

This episode is focussed on the physics content of chapter 1. I explain what the current “conception” of physics is in terms of dynamical laws and initial conditions. I run through a simple example of how equations of motion are used and discuss how this has been, hitherto, the way physics has been done, is done and is expected to continue to be done according to most philosophers and physicists. We then compare this vision of physics to what constructor theory aims to achieve by considering more than just a single thread through the fabric of reality (what was, is and will be) and instead to consider what might have been and might still be. This clearly has implications for knowledge and, again, we hint at the possibility of a physics of epistemology. It also opens up the possibility for physics to address questions about why the initial conditions are the way they are and thus provides a new window into the origins of the universe and the problem of "fine tuning" when it comes to the constant of nature and the form of the physical laws.

BofI and FofR have presented for me in past decades a new and challenging change of conception in the physics I thought I knew. It took fifteen years or so to absorb these ideas and have them become a palpable decipherable reality (re: best current theory) (—The Everettian multiversal interpretation of QM in particular was difficult to grasp!) 

So finding this and other secondary discussions and interpretations has been invaluable to understanding, as have David Deutsch's own many vids, papers, and articles. All the peripheral detail and conjecture—yours is the best source I've found for this—add a growing context and familiarity to the ideas of his core writing and aided greatly in whatever integration and grasp I've attained. (..Not a full comprehension, perhaps, but I have at least answered many questions and cleared several large gray areas) So I'm thrilled to see Constructor Theory (and FofR!) added to your projects. I'm a bit bewildered by the theory at the moment but feel sure I'll come out on the other end far more well informed and familiar. —Really can't thank you enough for this and your many other good works, Brett.

I enjoyed episode one but not sure I needed a major rebuttal on what we understand to be a revolution. Would you view the “American Revolution” as a trivial change in governance, for example? The work of Copernicus, Kepler and Galileo had to survive the formidable power of the Church.
