while you guys are here... i am so grateful to finally start growing a community of good people after years and years of failure as a youtuber (this is not my first channel). if even 1% of you reading this decide to subscribe, i'll be eternally grateful. i will not let you down! i will continue to bring cool sports content in shorts so we can hopefully forget about our daily struggles, if only for 60 seconds at a time... love you 🙌🏻

Note that the special hold is not coated it’s just smooth plastic. There are also holds with smooth and rough plastic called dual-Tex. I hate it.

He washed the chalk off. He did not do it with wet hands. You can see him drying his hands off. He cleaned the chalk off because it was causing him to slip off the smooth hand hold. He dried them off after getting rid of the chalk and the started. Your fingers have a surprising amount of grip if you know how to use them. Chalk makes your hand more slippery, but usually, it doesn't matter because rock is porous enough to make up for it, and a chalked hand/finger is less slippery than sweaty wet hands. That's why as soon as he passed the slippery hold, he immediately re-chalked his hands.

small correction (sorry if im sounding like a know-it-all) the hold is not coated, just *very* smooth plastic.

Actually chalk smooths the microscopic grooves in our palms decreasing grip on smooth surfaces but as rocks are rough therefore is does not apply to them. That PLATFORM was smooth so the microscopic grooves actually helped him more than the chalk.

Hope this helps!

He is the only person who can put "problem solving skills" on his resume

He's not only developed incredible stamina and strength, but also trained his brain in problem solving. Adapting to the situation was a key to his success!

I dont believe he used the moisture from washing his hands. He just needed to get the chalk off so he could have a firmer grip on the smooth plastic.

The “added special coating” to make the hold slippery isn’t anything added at all. In fact, it’s just missing the granular mixture that’s added to the resin that coats holds adding texture to the holds.
So it’s missing something, not added.
