Whilst I'm a fan of Gnome Shell and with each passing release they bring back features and Wayland session becomes perfect to use on my old Macbook, gestures being 90% there already and rock solid stability, the shell looks absolutely cartoonish only because every element is huge.

I'm sure the dev team looks at Mac OS once in while and copies its homework but goodness they should've looked at how Apple did information density and element proportionality in the pre Big Sur era. This is not a dig on CSD but rather their Xadwaita guidelines, trim some gaps, some padding, just a tiny bit. It doesn't look bad on a big 21 inch display but it does on a 13 inch one.

Heck, I went all out on the LibAdwaita hate but now I dig it a lot. BUT everything is huge.

I'm running Manjaro Gnome which as of 9/20/23 is still on Gnome 44.5, even after doing a system update tonight, so I don't want to hear anyone tell me they don't like Manjaro because it updates too fast, No just NO as it seems pure Arch, and Fedora are rolling faster than Manjaro who looks to be testing, and vetting things before pushing it out to their official repos. Having said that I'm looking forward to Gnome 45, as it seems to be moving in very positive direction, and as always Tom thanks for the awesome video 👍

That's funny cauze I always use last version of Plasma in different distro, like Void Linux, Kubuntu and last one Debian Sid and everytime I get updates, and there's for a ton of extensions update, none of them broke at all!
That's one of the reason I just love KDE Plasma!❤

Gnome is headed in a good direction (good to see "Application" text in the top left buried). However, Debian 12.1 and Sid with KDE are difficult to abandon. How about a video on Ubuntu Sway?

Personally I really like it, I do like the window switcher/scroll, Use kde, xfce as well, , "Debian 12"

So far since I started using linux KDE Plasma is the best gnome just feels like it should be used with a touch screen and not a mouse for me. I installed it by mistake the first time I installed debian 12 mainly because it's the first option on the list and I got so angry with it I decided to install the next one down which was KDE and I've never looked back.

Nautilus isn't great, but neither is any other of the file managers. All things considered, I would put Nautilus up there with Thunar and PCManFM; at least it's not as bad as Caja, Dolphin or Nemo. But I'm not aware of a single file manager for Linux that can measure up to the Windows 95-8.1 versions File Explorer.

Same here, I hate Nautilus. I also hate GTK file mangers in general. Especially when I'm using KDE.

Its funny AF that every update to plasma doesn't break widgets and other addons... GNOME 2 was the last great GNOME.. GNOME has been utter trash since

Gnome still looks like a Windows 8 tablet to me. Pass.
