We Know It's Christmas serves as a direct rebuttal to the 1984 Band Aid single, "Do They Know It’s Christmas," which, according to Fuse,
perpetuates outdated and negative stereotypes about
Africa, portraying the continent solely as a place of poverty and famine. The release date also marks the 10th anniversary of the moment Fuse ODG made global headlines by turning down an invitation to join the 2014 revamp of the Band Aid project led by Sir Bob Geldof. The
musician's decision ignited widespread debate, but Fuse stood firm, asserting that African voices should be at the forefront of telling their own stories. In an open letter published by The Guardian shortly after the incident, Fuse addressed the media storm, gaining international attention. His words quickly went viral, amassing over 80,000 shares and millions of views, making it one of the most read articles globally that week and one
of the most read pieces of the year on The Guardian website.

To mark the anniversary of this defining moment, Fuse’s new single
"We Know It’s Christmas" is not just a critique but a
celebration of how far things have come. It explores the transformation in the African narrative since his bold decision. It highlights the continent's growing economic strength, pointing out that, in Ghana alone, tourism and remittances now contribute more to the economy than all foreign aid combined. "We Know It’s Christmas" is not just a song, it’s a statement," Fuse ODG says. "It's a reflection of where we’ve come from and where we’re going. Ten years ago, I made a stand because I believed it was time for Africans to tell their own stories and to redefine the narrative. This song is a celebration of that shift. We're no longer waiting for charity;
we’re building our own futures. This is about empowerment, pride, and showing the world that Africa’s story is far more than poverty and aid.

In addition to his music, Fuse ODG is reshaping global perceptions of Africa with the launch of School of New Africa (SONA), an educational app that teaches Black History and uncovers Africa's powerful, often overlooked stories. SONA highlights the continent's contributions to global culture, science, and history, empowering the next generation with
knowledge of their rich heritage beyond the mainstream narratives of slavery, poverty and struggle.

We Know It’s Christmas
1st Verse
What a time
Everybody coming back home and losing their mind
Everything that we said in the dark is coming to light
All the blood and sacrifice
To undo what dem advertised
Now the youths dem
be full of pride
I wish Mr Garvey could see this
Malcom X yea him dream this
Kwame Nkrumah could see this
This feels like 6th March 57 but the remix
Chorus
We know when it’s Christmas (x6)
2nd Verse
You can’t tell me nothing
My people them celebrating
everything is bussing
It’s our time end of discussion
You told me there’s no Christmas in December
Yes I remember
Stripping me that’s your agenda
But you never thought we would end up
Leaving the place that you sent us
We never surrendered
I wish Mr Garvey could see this
Malcom X yea him dream this
Kwame Nkrumah could see this
This feels like 6th March 57 but the remix
Chorus
We know when it’s Christmas (x6)
Outro
Run it
Fuse ODG - We Know It’s Christmas (Lyrics).docx
We’ve done it
It feels like 6th March 57 it’s the remix
Run it
We’ve done
It
feels like 6th March 57 it’s the remix

Going home to Ghana I see myself EVERYWHERE. Black women with curves are appreciated. Dark skin black women are loved. There is no colourism

Never felt comfortable with band aid song as white British - I’ve always found it really patronising. Love this reply!
