1930s Straits Chinese filigree ring set with diamonds weighing 0.45ctw in 18k.

Closer to Victorian than mid-century, these Chinese-Victorian rings from this region have a certain look.

Like Victorian casual rings, the stone(s) is set close to the finger, not raised tall as Chinese diamond rings later evolved.

The gold work is thick but the whole mount comes together in a dainty package.

The gallery is left rather sparse, as thin non-ornate curlicues - the use of white gold still a nouveau art at this time.

These earlier white gold rings are very precious because they form the finery of early jewelry work that for a long time that could only be done in platinum.

The ring's cushion face measures 14mm by 12mm.
