I had a decent little stint on Etsy with a couple printed items but kinda fell off midway through this year and haven't done a lot of work on the shop in quite a while. Etsy has been a great platform for us so far. We have done roughly 50% of our business there, with the other 50% being bespoke design and print for our 3D printing business. Not bad for a company about 4 months old.

Esty does well for me. Opened the account in 2013 but didn’t really do anything with it until 2019 when I had only 50 sales total. Pushed the SEO’s, improved photography, and created more products and grew it to just over 1, 900 sales since I started putting time into it. I also sell on Amazon, eBay and via my own website. I do leather work, 3D printed items I designed and recently added a laser cutter to add more items

I am thinking about selling 3D printed products too. My problem with etsy and ebay is not necessarily the fees, but that you have no influence on the ranking if you don't buy additional advertising. Even with advertising, there is hardly any information about what is actually happening in the background. With your own onlineshop, you obviously have more work to do before you generate any traffic at all. but the total costs are lower and you could undercut your competitors on etsy and ebay 😁

Love and hate relationship with Etsy... they banned an account with 900+ sales. But that's a tough conversation. The fees don't bother me because it's priced in and its a part of doing business. I spent so much on advertising when i tried shopify...

The Etsy fee is really like 6 1/2% the rest of that is for payment processing which you’re gonna pay as a vendor no matter where you’re selling

Etsy has been pretty dope to me. Seems like the people there actually want to buy my kind of product and also seems like the fees are cheaper than eBay.

You should discuss shipping and handling.. Not only do you have Etsy fees (reminiscent of the days when eBay was "the thing") but shipping costs have gone up exponentially. I used to use USPS Flat Rate boxes but now they are $11-$26 bucks...

If you're just starting out, the easiest way to look at it is you have nothing to lose with etsy. After a point you will need to look at how to get more profitable with it.

I’ve liked Etsy so far. I think a lot of legacy users selling handmade items are facing competition from mass-produced non-handmade products, which is what Etsy was supposed to not be. This isn’t as big an issue for 3D printed products and for newer users who see Etsy as a selling platform, not necessarily a handmade item platform.

I started selling a very nice 3D printed hobby product I invented (it also has non-printed components) in June and while it was slow starting, the holiday season has been bonkers. I only have one printer and I cannot keep my item in stock. I really want to buy a second printer but I’ll wait to see what more “normal” demand looks like in the first few months of 2025.
