This is probably the only Leica product that I, an avid Leica critic, admire. The worlds best lens. And amazingly compact. Should I ever end up with a 35mm mirrorless camera, it is likely that I will buy this lens. Kudos Leica!

Fellow worshippers of Leica. You blanche, you shudder, you go weak in the knees when you look at the price tags of these miraculous creations. Do not despair! Take my route: a used M3 and an original summicron lens. If you don't feel the need to put your negatives or images under an electron microscope, you will be every bit as happy with the results you get from old equipment. Well cared for Leicas don't age. They are the photographic equivalent of Steinway pianos or Stradivarius violins.

I am a very happy owner of a leica Monochrome type 246. Also my first one I saved up for some time and bought a new one. I love it and man I would love to own the Apo summicron 50. My dream lens, next year I am going to buy the 50 mm F/2 summicron asph 6 bit.

I bought the Summilux 50mm f1.4 instead, only because I prefer a faster lens and more wide aperture. I think it has some APO goodness too.

I still just love how Peter Karbe decided to leave the APO designation off the 50 Summilux ASPH, even though it is an APO lens. Just because. LOL

Is the 35mm apo sharper / better optics than 50mm apo

My favorite lens at the moment. The 55mm Otus might be tad better and less flair prone, but the 50 apo wins out because of the resolution + small size

The results I've seen so far are indeed very impressive but the price! Yes, Leica is expensive. I bought a Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH new but for an f/2 lens, APO+ASPH or not, it's a pretty outrageous starting price. If typical retail inflation occurs, we're likely to find this lens at $8950 next year!

I like these cameras, beautiful and simple... I just think they are a little to pricey for me. Maybe some day.

The 50 apo flares like a pig. A cheap 18-55 kit lens performs better in that regard. It is not a QC issue, it is a design flaw. I find it funny when you charge that much money for a lens, why not hire someone to test it first? It is pricy does not mean it is perfect. In fact, it is a shame for leica to come out with a flawed lens like this.
