Iliza's Favorite Garbage Pasta

1 chicken breast, sliced in half lengthwise
1 tablespoon of finely chopped garlic
a pinch of dried oregano
a glug of olive oil for the chicken, plus a hefty glug for the sauce
salt
pepper
a squeeze of lemon juice
8 ounces angel hair pasta
a hefty glug of extra virgin olive oil
3 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
1 sprig of fresh basil
a pinch of crushed red pepper
freshly ground black pepper
1 28-ounce can of whole peeled tomatoes
an insane amount of grated smoked mozzarella (or just a metric ton of parmesan cheese)

Season the chicken breast with salt, pepper and oregano. Squeeze lemon juice over it and coat it in olive oil. Stir in the chopped garlic. Let it marinate in the fridge for at least an hour but up to 24.

Place a hefty glug of olive oil into a sauce pot and place it over medium heat. Add the garlic slices and tilt the pan so that they are totally submerged, adding more oil if needed. Add the basil sprig on top and cook it until the garlic is soft and beginning to brown. Add the can of tomatoes and their juices. Season it with salt and pepper and let it simmer for about 15 minutes, covered, stirring occasionally.

Remove the basil sprig and turn off the heat, then blend the sauce with an immersion blender (or in a normal blender).

Bring a pot of water to a boil.

In a hot pan or on a hot grill, grill or sear the chicken until it is just cooked through. Set it aside to rest.

Meanwhile, add salt to the pot of water and boil the pasta until Albert Dente.

Drain the pasta and stir it into the tomato sauce. Simmer until well combined, then serve it, topped with grated cheese and topped with chicken breast.

Wonderful looking dish! I'm certain this is the dish that clinched the James Beard award. Congratulations Noah!

"Cage free chicken!"
"I don't care if it was in a cage" LOL
I love her. It's honestly hilarious that two people I'm a fan of are married to each other. I first saw Iliza on Last Comic Standing and loved her and I watched you on Food Feeder back in the day. Then on one of her specials she mentioned you and I was like "Wait what?! THEY'RE MARRIED?!?!" **hums it's a small world after all**

'You want to make sure that when you put your fork in the dishwasher after this, that your fork will have hardened cheese on it forever''

I feel so seen. I've thrown forks away because the amount of cheese theyve touched made them inoperable forever.

I lived in Dallas for 6 years, and I can absolutely attest that chicken with pasta is a thing. We don't apologize. Well done!

Hahaha ngl that looks pretty dang awesome. I'd probably not use angel hair either but I'd still shovel it in if someone else made it for me. :) Great stuff!

Noah’s no dummy. Of course he made spaghetti with chicken and didn’t say anything. When I was dating my wife she could say “you know what would be great? Milk chocolate and zucchini.” I would have said “totally” and got to working on some zucchini chocolate truffles or something.

I'd be trashy with Iliza - I'd eat my pasta with some baked or grilled chicken in it.
