I can't get over this fucking EP. I've never even listened to hardcore before but this is so fucking good. The attitude, the aggression, the honesty, it's all there. The first track: anti-christian isn't exactly a new idea in music but you get the feeling that these guys, growing up in Kentucky, really mean this shit when they play it. It's not contrived at all. It's more like, on there own, they stumbled across the time-honored idea of bashing religion through song and they're not just imitating others.

I've been jamming this hard lately. I really love the vocals.

Trying to find something to say about the lyrics.

All of the songs are written from the perspective of the vocalist, and each have a theme of crushing disillusionment with the world, personal relationships, and finding meaning/solidarity, even in hardcore or with your closest friends and family.

At one point he even admits that he's through with drugs and just wants to be sober, but doesnt want to identify with the straight edge movement. Like others who act in bad faith because of religion, he feels he would be doing the same by adopting that label and trying to find connection with others who have chosen that lifestyle. Trying to connect with others is ultimately pointless because we are all fundamentally cut off from any semblance of authenticity in social interaction or genuine personal growth, by forces that are both alien to and a part of us.

I think the forces he's pointing to, are of course tied to capitalism and the way we are self alienated by our society, where everything is commoditized, where we're essentially trained to be narcissistic sociopaths in order to succeed. Thats why he says he's rejecting that "tryhard lifestyle". We have to bury our problems and be on top of everything. The crushing inner anxiety and self loathing this causes makes us unable connect with others.

Ultimately, there is no catharsis in the vocalist's eyes. This is the way it is and it's so fucked we cant even begin to fix it.
