Kunigami was too nice to be a part of blue lock, he was selfless which is the complete opposite of what Ego wants everyone in that competition to be. Kunigami had the skills to be one of the best, his kindness is what held him back. Losing, almost getting eliminated and being a part of that wild card round made him desperate, and being desperate and hungry for something you want really could change another persons point of view in everything. Long story short, bro felt what it was like to be on the verge of elimination, didn't want to go through it twice, wants to win not for a team but for himself and just straight up didn't held back against everyone in that wild card round; even if they were former teammates. Kunigami losing awakened that egoist inside him, him losing turned him into an even bigger threat and there's nothing more dangerous than a person who has looked defeat in the eyes, fought so many adversaries and win. He's definitely going to be one of the top players after this whole thing ended.

I definitely think this is the case and I hope we'll get to see it in the future. One of my very few disappointments of Blue Lock was that we didn't get to see how the elimination of some characters like Kuon happened. Showing that through the eyes of Kunigami would be very ingenious and heartbreaking.
