DIONNE WARWICK Heartbreaker EXTENDED

Показать описание
Released in September of 1982, 'Heartbreaker' sung by Dionne Warwick entered the Australian chart on December 6, and would rise to #2 in 1983; spending 21 weeks in the chart and becoming the 18th best seller of the year. After Barbra Streisand benefited so majorly from Barry Gibb and his brothers on her 1980 opus 'Guilty', every big name was clamouring for a piece of the Gibb brothers' magic and Dionne's album and single 'Heartbreaker' was certainly that. I recall at the time Casey Kasem telling his listeners on the weekly AT 40 broadcast I religiously tuned in for, that Dionne was the then oldest artist to make the Top 10 - at the terribly old age of 42!!!! It was certainly testament to the enduring popularity of this iconic vocalist but also the genius of the Bee Gees to write and produce golden hits.
'Heartbreaker' was a #2 in England as well here in Oz, but only peaked at #10 in America, but went on to sell some 4 million copies worldwide and is considered one of Dionne's best sellers in a career filled with big hits. Ms Warwick's career had hit a slump in the 1970's other than a duet with The Spinners: 'Then Came You', but then came Barry Manilow with 1979's 'Dionne' and the pair of Grammy wins for her on 'I'll Never Love This Way Again' & 'Deja Vu'. Her Arista record label tenure was a most fruitful one, and Dionne would continue to create one album after another which satisfied the fan base that adored her combination of Pop/R&B and Adult Contemporary recordings such as Heartbreaker which afforded her with her 8th #1 on the AC chart. Purportedly, Dionne was never especially enamored with 'Heartbreaker' but trusted Barry Gibb and her Producers to craft the song. She had admitted earlier in her career that she was not fond of 'Do You Know The Way To San Jose' as well, and that ended up being one of her greatest, and it is common knowledge that the great vocalist made some questionable decision in some other ventures, so thankfully her music career was well looked after!
I had already uploaded an extended performance clip, editing Dionne to this longer mp3, but i couldn't resist posting another one for this great recording. I simply adored Dionne Warwick since discovering in 1979 (somewhat unaware then of her 1960's run of hits) and have been a hugely devoted fan ever since, including seeing her live at the Sydney Opera house in the 00's and she did not disappoint. Now that would have been a Heartbreaker! :)
