Pigadia is the capital and main port of Karpathos. The settlement lies around the natural port. On the left side of the entrance of the harbour dominates a rock where the ruins of the ancient acropolis of the island can be seen. Some of the most interesting sightseeings are the Acropolis of ancient Posidio, the ruins of a paleoChristian basilica, the monumental tomb in the cave of Neptune and the small museum of the town. Long sandy beaches are stretching north of Pigadia.
