Software loading by cassette was a great motivator to save up for a floppy drive or two. It was a terrible experience.

A few notes:
- the RS-232 interface is installed in the Expansion Interface.
- the CONV / DCONV programs came with the Level II Basic upgrade (the computer was originally bought with Level 1 Basic). I think the backgammon tape did as well, although maybe it was the one that originally came with the original computer purchase.
- the TRS-80 was notorious for keybounce on the keyboard. One of the cassettes has the driver to handle it in software. I'm pretty sure that debounce functionality is in the LDOS operating system when you're using a disk system.
- the Level I game pack binder is missing its contents. I stumbled across it, and I've got it sitting on my desk right now!
- that Modem 1B is 300 baud. How long would this video take to download over that???
- the volume setting on the cassette recorder was really finicky -- it was a real hassle to find the right volume setting to load in a tape. Plus, the tape head would get magnetized after lots of use; that's what the tape cleaner / demagnetizer tape was for. If I remember correctly, it also came with some kind of solution that you'd put on that cassette tape, then press play, and it would run for about 20 seconds scrubbing the head.

Have fun at VCF!

I'm so jealous. I never knew the Tandy could be used with so many different programing languages!

The first disk drive you unboxed I believe is actually a Coco disk drive (the 2nd version, which should be a 40 track single sided). I think it even said Color Disk Drive (or similar) on the front.

That sucks on the tape drive. I had one I picked up over 1 year ago but got rid of it cleaning house due to having a broken part in it on the play button. So it wouldn't stay down. I did put it on e-pay first though. Nobody wanted it. But, I re-donated it about 8 months ago or so. Oh, well that is how the old stuff goes sometimes.

The grey one is the older of the two probably came around the same time as expansion bus... the white one is more than likely a coco 2 drive... they were white..
