How to Wash Windows Like a Pro! Window Cleaning Ideas That Save Time & Money (Clean My Space)

I've been asked a lot lately about doing a window cleaning tutorial and in particular 'what's the best way to clean a window' - so today, I'm going to show you how to wash your windows (or clean your windows) like a professional...

Here's the blog:

Do you know why professional window cleaners use microfibre pads and squeegees to clean their clients windows? Well, neither do - but I'm sure there;s a very good reason for it..

A long time ago I cleaned my windows using only vinegar and paper towels - but truth be told - it's really quite time consuming using the spray and wipe procedure - and more often than not, I would get frustrated with the streaky results...
There's got to be a better way..

As a professional window cleaner I can say the tool is okay, the method is okay too, but you really should towel the whole window. Also your mop only needs to be damp for inside windows and only a little more for outside so the window doesn't dry due to wind and sun.

Hi Melissa, I have been watching your videos since I guess maybe last 2-3 years. Its really changed the way I clean now & also the way how I get it done from my cleaning lady. Just got your book delivered last week & I must say you have done a good job. I keep coming back to the related videos after I go through a chapter. Thank you so much for all your tips & tricks.
I did have a look at your other window cleaning videos but I was looking for something which compiles cleaning the window frame, the tracks & the glass (inside & outside) all in one video. I really wish u do it ASAP

awesome tips I'm a big fan and I actually clean for a living, I've used alot of your tips at work and home works wonders makes life so much easier. But I have a tip my mum also showed me for cleaning windows I thought I would share it with you. .but only if you have this in your home Avon bubble bath I use a bucket one capful of bubble bath and two microfiber clothes (one for wet & one for dry or a shami cloth works well too....I've even used newspaper or a squeegee. ..no streaks. ..

Thanks so much! The squeegee is a little large and drippy for car windows. You can watch our mirror cleaning video which also demonstrates an easy way to clean glass.

I was looking for a way to wipe my hard drive for Windows 10. It took me a few secs to realise this wasn't a joke...

I was a member of the Swedish Window Cleaners Union, back in the day. We used Ettore Squeegees exclusively.

This does work for outside windows. Another little hint is instead of going sideways if possible go vertical and certainly on for glass doors. Then on the inside go horizontal. That way you know where the mess is my real question is what gas station washes your windows.

I learned that nifty trick years ago, you are right, cleaning windows is a breeze. I use windshield washer fluid, it made to get bug bits off windshields & leaves an extra shine on my windows

Ok so I've been professionally cleaning windows for 10 years. Toss the dawn liquid and use a window cleaning solution. You'll get better results and those results will last longer. They're in the same aisle as the squeegee and window mops. Don't just apply the solution. Scrub like you would a floor with a floor mop. Add a splash of car window fluid to your solution for tar and debris that won't come off easily. Dawn liquid will attract new dirt and shorten the period they stay clean. For inside wet and squeeze your mop dry. Use a spray bottle to apply the solution inside. Don't bring the bucket inside the house. Avoid scraping unless you are 💯% comfortable as glass easily scratches if you don't know what your doing

My mum told me this way to clean windows years ago. It’s the best.

You mentioned in a previous video, that you like steam cleaner/cleaning. So why not use it to clean your windows? It also has a microfiber cloth and a squeegee attachment. I clean all my windows and glass doors and mirrors with steam. Does a great job :)

The pro I asked used dish soap. Also saw on the web to add a short squirt of Jet Dry. Amazon has lots of 'pro' gear that doesn't break, works well and fairly priced.

Soap and water.... soap and scrub it up real good. once you know all the dirt specks are gone, THEN get the squeegy out. BTW, did ya'll notice that in her example of doing it, she left behind streaks and dirt? LOL!

Thanks so much, Dena! That's a great thing to hear! Have you seen our container cleaning video? It has some good tips on cleaning plastic. However, what plastic are you referring to on French doors, aren't they usually glass?

I literally had just finished washing my windows outside when I came in to reward myself by watching some Youtube videos and saw your tutorial. My first thought was "No! Melissa is going to have some totally awesome way to do the windows and I just did it the hard way!" Luckily my brother washes windows for his high school job so I had just used his squeegee and did it the same way you did. lol

Great video as usual. We use our cloths with just water - we find these gives no streaks at all.
