The model is the Sundolphin American 12, however it also goes under different names from different retailers. Some of the names include the Pond Prowler 12, Pelican Intruder 12, Quest Sportsman 12, etc. These are 12ft plastic hull boats, built for budget boaters like you and I!

I don't know what you have in mind for adding a cleat, but if it was my boat, I'd just put a cleat along the length of a short section of broom handle and stick it down in one of the poorly designed rod holders. No holes needed for screws. (I hate the idea of putting holes in my boat hulls) Make a couple and you can move your anchor points around as needed.

I have a Sun Dolphin and I take my on the ocean. I have a 5hp 4stroke Honda outboard motor and it does fine with just me fishing on it. I wouldn't suggest it on a super windy day, but besides that this is reliable. Sun dolphin does have cleats FYI and a seat in the back. On the ridge parts for the floor I put foam black gym floors, the ones you have to connect like a puzzle and it does the job very well.

I know these are inexpensive boats, but my problem with them is the thermal formed polypropylene. they’re just disposable if you put a hole-in-one. I know they make gator batch to fix holes for boats like this, but hear me out.

Few years ago had an accident my kayak where the strap came off, got caught in the wheel of the trailer and whipped around it just ripped up in my kayak. A friends’s father taught me about plastic welding. Since my kayak was made of polyethylene, I was able to repair that kayak with almost no visible side of damage. That’s when I learned the difference. I would personally stay away from these, but I also have the option to buy something a little bit more expensive out of a material.

I’ve had to try to repair six polypropylene boats. Two we were able to fix them with gator patch, the third just had to be trashed and the rest was not worth trying. I repaired close to 100 polyethylene boats and all repaired with scrap recycle #2 plastic and a heat gun. One boat we pulled out of the woods, sanded it down with some 600 grit sandpaper then I hit the whole boat with propane torch and it looks like new.

Also, here’s a tip. If you have a vehicle with black plastic bumpers on your vehicle, when you go to sell it wash off those black plastic parts and hit it with a propane torch and you see that oxidation go away. I learned that from a friend who owns a used car dealership. That is how they’re able to make those cars look better. Doesn’t take much heat.

I enjoyed the video and can’t wait to see you pimp it out. 😉

I got a thick rubber door matt from Home Depot for the floor. It fits perfectly and is easy to stand on now. 👍

dang i bought 1 of these almost 10 years ago brand new, a bit cheaper, but it was a great first little boat for myself, easy to stand and move around on, ez to load in and out of a truck bed. definitely was a nice little boat for how cheap they are!

you could drill a hole through one of the rod holders and put rope through it for an anchor. id to the top part and go through both of the arched parts

what do you think about putting inflateable stabilizers on this boat to get it back to being as stable as the pond prowler but better on the ocean like this?

Appreciate this video. Very helpful in making a decision

I just wish boats like this were rated for a little more weight. Similar sized inflatables can hold like 5 people, a thousand pounds or more.

Do you need a trailer for this boat? I have a Nissan frontier and was wondering if it was possible if I could just strap the boat to the trunk bed. It’s either this or the bass pro pond prowler 12’

Just a suggestion for floor comfort Gym mat material on the floor of the boat .might be a winner.

The only thing I’ll say about the Prowler is it handles choppy water pretty well. I had a Bass Hunter before that, and that wasn’t good at all in choppy water. I would really like to get something that handles a larger motor. Looking forward to the custom touches. It would be great if you could find a 250 pound 70 year old to put in it.
