Jitsu leads to Do. I.e., after.a while, .you apply the principles to everyday life. You need Jitsu. Without it, there is no Do.

I've been practicing Kyokushin for a year and a half now, competed twice. My sensei is trying to carry out Sosai's Shin Soseki/New Genesis in Kyokushin, and the more we apply it the more he and I have noticed a Budo aspect which most "sport" Kyokushin schools have neglected. Budo over Bujutsu every day!

A good summary & comparison/contrast! In a similar way, but for different reasons, some European arts changed from combat arts to sports. For example what we call Olympic fencing is a sport but evolved from smallsword fencing which was a self defense & duelling martial art. Another example is boxing which began as pure fighting but slowly was "cleaned up" and became a sport; although even in its current form it is rather effective as a fighting art. Earlier boxing allowed for head locks, throws, back hands, hammer fists, kicking of the shins g stomping of the feet for example.

Antony Cummins wrote a book on what Bushido actually is. I wonder sometimes how different Martial Arts would be if the Japanese took inspiration from the Sengoku Period instead of Edo Period.
