I’m curious, if you aren’t from the US: Is this considered offensive in your country?

She was making herself look like a specific person, not a specific race. Simple distinction between artistry and racism.

To Americans: America is not the only place on earth. Thank you.

She wasn’t making fun of him being black…she was being him because he’s funny, it’s a compliment.

I think context matters. And I think here she's doing it to A) show her skills. And B) for entertainment. I don't think she's doing it as a slur or in a derogatory manner

To be honest I'm really impressed with her skills

As a non-american I actually had to look up 'black face'. That girl definitely wasn't setting out to offend. Maybe Americans need to relax a little.

I love it when Americans act like the US is the only country in the whole world and assume everyone who responds to them is also in America

I'm black myself and it's honestly not offensive. Instead I'm actually impressed. She is just trying to show off her make up skills by trying to look like other famous people or characters. She has done it before with other famous people and so has plenty of other make up artists, I've even seen a couple of black women do their makeup to look like white people or characters and nobody got offended, it's basically just a trend to show how good their makeup skills are and it's actually really impressive how good they are. I get that it has a bad history but back then it was used completely different than how it was used in this video. She wasnt trying to mock our skincolour in a racist way, people get offended by literally anything these days even sending death threats to her and her familymembers which is crazy.

USA: fakely offended
Rest of the world: doesn't give a shit

The point is that minstrel shows usually were black coal like colored faces with bright red or pink lips. She made herself look like him, she wasn't doing a stereotype or mocking him, she literally just made his face and it looks wicked awesome

I'll defend her. The makeup looks great and she wasn't attacking or making light of him so...

To me, this is just a makeup look. Not the really crude shoe polish or brown paint look you see from people doing blackface. She's just capturing his likeness and if neither of them are from the US then it's not a big deal. She's not being disrespectful or demeaning at all. And just as a side note, no one who does blackface actually bothers to add different warm and cool tones to make it look realistic like that.

On another episode of Americans thinking the whole world is America:

Imagine being offended by art. There is CLEARLY no malice in what she did and it was done only as entertainment with pure intention and admiration for the creator. Can't believe we have to have this conversation nowadays.

As a American I can say that other Americans getting offended over this is just goofy and stupid

People aren't actually offended, they are seeking an invisible tolerance trophy that grants them absolutely nothing in life.

In South Africa, two white Stellenbosch University students got in serious trouble and were suspended with a “blackface” incident. They painted their bodies purple and sprinkled glitter all over them. They were space aliens at a space-themed party. A pic was taken of them and posted on social media. Unfortunately a filter was used on the camera which made their faces appear black. They were in some serious trouble and were labelled as racists. They had to apologise for the “offence their actions caused”.

Yup, this crap cannot be made up! It’s only an issue if it suits a certain narrative…

There I a difference between black face and costume make up. Historically, black face is a caricature associated with and defined by racist stereotypes. Its painting your face to make fun of black people.

This I not that. Thi is purely a demonstration of make up skill paying homage to another creator they admire. To say that any time a person alters their racial appearance with make up is racist is absurd. There is a big difference between shoe polish faced cartoon characters and special effects make up.

This isn't the old days anymore. People get offended way too much over stuff. I figure if no harm was meant, and the person who she made herself look like doesn't care, then everyone else can just shut it.
