Marina City, often known as "the corn cobs", is a mixed-use residential-commercial building complex in Chicago, Illinois, designed by architect Bertrand Goldberg.

The complex consists of two 587-foot (179 m), 65-story apartment towers, opened in 1963, which include physical plant penthouses. It also includes a 10-story office building (now a hotel) opened in 1964, and a saddle-shaped auditorium building originally used as a cinema. The four buildings, access driveways, and a small plaza that originally included an ice rink are built on a raised platform next to the Chicago River. Beneath the platform, at river level, is a small marina for pleasure craft, giving the structures their name.

This documentary film was produced by the Portland Cement Association, narrated by Walt Newton, and written, directed, and photographed by Arthur P. Mandler.

I've helped to enhance, colorize, and upscale the documentary to 4K/60fps using de-interlacing methods, Chronos framerate conversions, Artemis AI, and the Proteus 6-Parameter model (e.g., fine-tune de-blocking, detail recovery, sharpening, noise reduction, de-haloing, and antialiasing).

Enjoy!

Interesting history behind creation of this world-class architectural icon. Thanks for posting.

You can't create detail where none exists, but this expanded resolution version is still more fun to watch than the original. Good job.

This is so cool. It’s fascinating how the buildings around Marina City have changed since this was filmed. Outstanding structural infrastructure for these amazing architectural wonders.

Wish they still made documentaries like this.

I absolutely love this music from the 60s into the 70s. It’s out of some trippy acid crazy universe. They used this style a lot. Even for kids cute Sesame Street stuff, all the way to documentaries about anything. Bridges, space, technological advancements.

The music is both calming and creepy at the same time

...as a child of the 60s the optimism of tomorrow was overwhelming, how things have gone so wrong...

This is wonderful. What is the status of Marina city now? I think it has seen better days.

WGN's Walt Newton is the narrator, I was ready to assert it was Ray Scott but he's more of a Minneapolis/Green Bay "voice." Lots of industry speak to put the viewer into nap mode!
